PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and PUBG MOBILE are separate games built for different hardware. BATTLEGROUNDS is the PC and console battle royale, while PUBG MOBILE is a mobile app with touch-focused controls, mobile-specific modes, training, and voice chat. Choose based first on your device and preferred input, then check your console generation and the mobile edition available in your territory.
What is the difference between PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and PUBG MOBILE?
Both games use the familiar battle-royale formula: players enter a match, collect weapons and supplies, and try to outlast opposing players or teams. That shared premise does not make them one cross-platform product. They are distributed separately, have different interfaces, and are designed around different input methods.
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is the PC and console game. Its official listings cover Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation and Xbox. On supported consoles it is free to play with optional in-game purchases; PC storefront terms can vary by storefront and region.

PUBG MOBILE is the phone-and-tablet release distributed through Google Play and Apple’s App Store. Its store description highlights customizable controls, training, voice chat, 100-player Classic Mode, 4v4 Arena, Payload, Infection Mode and additional maps and modes. Those listings do not establish that every mobile mode, map or balance choice is identical to the PC or console game.

The official pages checked for this comparison do not establish shared accounts, purchases, progression or cross-play between BATTLEGROUNDS and PUBG MOBILE. Treat them as separate products unless an official notice for a particular feature says otherwise.

Gameplay and controls
BATTLEGROUNDS: the PC and console survival loop
The official Xbox description reduces the central loop to “LAND, LOOT, SURVIVE!” You enter a match, land on the map, search buildings and terrain for weapons and supplies, and fight until you or your team is the last remaining. That description is the safe common denominator; it does not promise that every map, queue or event is available on every platform at every time.
On PC, keyboard-and-mouse input gives you separate movement, aiming and inventory controls. On consoles, the same product is played with a controller. The choice is therefore not simply about graphics: it changes how you interact with movement, aiming, inventory management and communication.
PUBG MOBILE: touch-first play with its own mode set
The official mobile listing specifically calls out customizable controls. You can arrange on-screen buttons and adjust the layout to suit your hands, device size and preferred grip. The listing also advertises a training mode, which provides a place to practice controls before entering a competitive match, and voice chat with friends.
The same listing names 100-player Classic Mode, 4v4 Arena, Payload and Infection Mode, along with other maps and modes. “100 players” refers to the Classic Mode description in the Google Play listing accessed October 13, 2026; it is not a guarantee that every queue always has 100 human players or that other modes use the same format. A 4v4 Arena match is a different structure from a full Classic battle royale.

What you should not assume is identical
- Do not assume a weapon, map, event or mode appears on both products at the same time.
- Do not treat mobile’s touch layout, aim controls or training tools as evidence that the PC and console interfaces work the same way.
- Do not use the mobile listing’s mode names as a complete description of BATTLEGROUNDS on PC or console.
- No independent head-to-head test was provided, so there is no supported claim here about which version has better frame rates, latency or competitive performance on a particular device.
Platforms and hardware requirements
PC
The official BATTLEGROUNDS landing page lists Steam and Epic Games alongside the console platforms. To play on PC, install the game from the storefront you use, sign in through that platform and check the current store page for operating-system and hardware requirements before downloading. Requirements can change with updates, so an older third-party specification should not override the current listing.
Console: the November 2025 generation change
Console support changed on November 13, 2025. PUBG Console is now supported on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions stopped being downloadable or playable after that transition. An older Xbox store page may still display Xbox One because it describes the earlier distribution; the later official transition notice supersedes that legacy-generation information.
If you already owned the console version, the transition notice says existing account data and purchased items remain preserved when moving to a supported current-generation console. PlayStation players must download the PS5 version. Xbox players with the game installed receive the current-generation version through Smart Delivery.
Publisher-listed console output
The following figures come from the 2025 official transition notice. They are publisher specifications, not independent benchmark results, and should be read as stated targets or output modes rather than a guarantee of identical performance in every scene.

If you are shopping for a console specifically for BATTLEGROUNDS, the practical requirement is a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, not a PS4 or Xbox One. The table does not compare image quality between consoles, because no independent test accompanies these figures.

Phones and tablets
The official PUBG MOBILE site links to Google Play and Apple’s App Store. The US App Store listing supports iPhone and iPad and gives compatibility guidance of iPhone 6 or newer and iPad Air 2 or newer. That is a dated store guideline, not a permanent promise: recheck the current listing on your device before installing because operating-system and device support can change.

Android availability is also handled through the current Google Play listing. Because the supplied official information does not provide a complete Android model or chipset table, use the compatibility information shown in your local store rather than assuming that every Android phone can run the game.
Regional availability and travel
Finding an app in a store is not the same as having permission to use every regional service. PUBG MOBILE’s help center states that the official South Korean app is serviced only in South Korea and that the official Japanese app is serviced only in Japan. It says comparable region-specific restrictions apply to other regional PUBG MOBILE services.
The global PUBG MOBILE site offers language choices and links to the major mobile stores, but those links do not prove that the game is playable in every country. The official material does not provide a complete country-by-country map, and availability, service territory and local store rules can change.
Check before installing or travelling
- Open the official PUBG MOBILE site and identify the store link for your device.
- Search the app in the store set to your actual country or region, not a different storefront.
- Read the local app description and support information for the edition’s service territory.
- If you are travelling, check the regional support article before changing your account country or relying on an app installed at home.
- Do not infer global playability from being able to sign in, seeing a download button or finding a language option.
For the Korean and Japanese official apps, the stated service territories are South Korea and Japan respectively. The sources do not establish whether a particular traveller can continue using a regional edition outside its territory, so do not treat that outcome as guaranteed.

Cross-play, accounts, purchases and progression
There are two different questions that are often confused:
- Cross-play within BATTLEGROUNDS: the Xbox description mentions limited cross-platform play on featured platforms. That is a statement about supported BATTLEGROUNDS platforms, not about mobile.
- Interoperability between BATTLEGROUNDS and PUBG MOBILE: the checked official pages do not establish shared accounts, shared purchases, shared progression or cross-play between the two products.
Consequently, do not buy an item in one title expecting it to appear in the other, and do not assume that a BATTLEGROUNDS character, statistics or progression will transfer to PUBG MOBILE. If an account-linking or migration feature is announced later, rely on that specific official announcement and its eligibility rules.
Cost and monetization
The Xbox store identifies BATTLEGROUNDS as free to play with optional in-game purchases. Store policies, downloadable content and purchase availability can vary by country and can change over time. “Free to play” describes access to the base game; it does not mean every cosmetic or optional item is free.
The Google Play listing for PUBG MOBILE shows ads and in-app purchases. Apple and Google can display different local prices, taxes or purchase descriptions. Check the store page attached to your account before spending, especially when travelling or using a regional edition.

Which version should you choose?
Choose BATTLEGROUNDS if…
- You want to play on a Windows PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- You prefer keyboard-and-mouse or a conventional game controller over touch controls.
- You already have a current-generation console and want the console edition’s listed output modes.
- You want the PC/console product and its supported platform cross-play, while understanding that the Xbox description calls it limited and platform-specific.
Choose PUBG MOBILE if…
- Your main device is an Android phone/tablet or an iPhone/iPad.
- You want touch controls that can be rearranged and a mobile-listed training mode.
- Voice chat with friends, 100-player Classic Mode, 4v4 Arena or the other modes named in the mobile listing are important to you.
- Your local store offers the correct regional edition and its service territory covers where you intend to play.
Pause and verify if…
- You only own a PS4 or Xbox One; those versions ended with the November 13, 2025 console transition.
- You expect one purchase, account or progression track to work in both products.
- You are moving countries or using a Korean, Japanese or other territory-specific mobile service.
- Your phone is near the minimum compatibility guidance and the current store listing has not confirmed support.
Installation and first-launch checklists
PC BATTLEGROUNDS
- Choose Steam or Epic Games from the official PC distribution options.
- Open that storefront and search for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS.
- Read the current hardware and operating-system requirements shown on the listing.
- Install the game, sign in through the platform account and allow updates to complete.
- Before inviting friends, confirm which BATTLEGROUNDS platforms are included in the current cross-play arrangement; do not add PUBG MOBILE users on the assumption that they are supported.
PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
- Open the PlayStation Store or Xbox store on the supported current-generation console.
- Search for PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and select the current-generation listing.
- On PlayStation, download the PS5 version. On Xbox, use the Smart Delivery version if the game is already installed.
- Install updates and verify that your existing account data and purchased items are present if you migrated from an earlier console edition.
- If you are using a PS4 or Xbox One, do not keep troubleshooting the old installation: those versions are no longer playable after the transition.
Android or iPhone/iPad
- Open Google Play or Apple’s App Store in the region where you will play.
- Search for the official PUBG MOBILE app and inspect the publisher, regional description and compatibility information.
- Confirm that your device meets the current store guidance; the US iOS listing’s older guidance names iPhone 6 or newer and iPad Air 2 or newer.
- Install the app, complete its updates and use the training mode to configure touch controls before entering Classic Mode.
- Use the listing’s voice-chat option only if you want in-game communication; a headset is optional, not a stated requirement.
Common problems and what they mean
“I cannot find the PS4 or Xbox One version.”
This is expected after the November 13, 2025 transition. The supported console versions are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Move to the current-generation listing instead of searching for a new download of the retired version.
“The mobile app appears in another country but not mine.”
Check the store’s country setting and the regional support article. A Korean or Japanese official app is serviced only in its named territory, and other regional services may have similar restrictions. Do not treat a foreign store listing as proof that the edition is authorized or playable where you live.
“My BATTLEGROUNDS items are missing in PUBG MOBILE.”
The official pages checked here do not establish cross-title account, purchase or progression sharing. Verify that you launched the correct product and platform account; do not assume an item transfer exists.
“The controls feel wrong on my phone.”
Open the mobile control customization tools and use training mode to reposition buttons and practice. The mobile listing explicitly presents those features because the game is designed for touch input, not because its controls match PC or console.

Compatibility guidance can change with app and operating-system updates. Recheck the current local App Store or Google Play listing rather than relying on an old device table or a previously installed version.
Bottom line: pick by hardware, then verify territory
BATTLEGROUNDS is the PC and current-generation console choice, with controller or keyboard-and-mouse input and a traditional platform-based distribution model. PUBG MOBILE is the Android and iOS choice, adding touch customization, training, voice chat and a mobile-specific selection of modes. They share the battle-royale idea but should not be treated as one interoperable account or progression system. Before downloading, confirm that your console is a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, that your phone or tablet is supported, and that the regional mobile edition is serviced where you plan to play.
