For U.S. buyers, PS5 Pro’s recommended price is $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. A retailer check reported no stock at six major sellers on October 9, but that is not a live inventory update for October 13. Start with Sony’s purchase page and local retailers, then verify the seller, condition, and full checkout price before ordering. GTA 6 is listed for PS5 and marked PS5 Pro Enhanced, but Sony and the PlayStation Store have not published specific Pro-versus-standard performance figures.
PS5 Pro availability: what the latest stock report says
Tom’s Guide reported that its check at 12:05 p.m. ET on October 9, 2026 found PS5 Pro out of stock at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop, and PlayStation Direct. That report also said a PlayStation Direct restock on October 6 sold out quickly. These are observations from those dates, not confirmation of stock or a restock schedule on October 13.

Sony directs U.S. shoppers to its PS5 buying page, which links to PlayStation Direct where available. Sony’s June 2026 article also points buyers to local retailers. Check those routes directly, and recheck known retailers because inventory can change.

What PS5 Pro should cost—and how to avoid a markup
Sony’s U.S. recommended retail price for PS5 Pro is $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. Sony announced the increase on March 27, attributing global price increases to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The console launched in the U.S. at $699.99 in September 2024; that is historical launch pricing, not the current recommended price.

When an item appears in stock, compare the complete offer rather than just the headline price. A marketplace listing may come from a third-party seller, and a unit may be new, open-box, refurbished, or pre-owned. Check who sells and fulfills it, its condition, shipping cost, delivery estimate, return terms, and total at checkout.
The October 9 Tom’s Guide report described a Walmart open-box offer at $1,399 and examples of third-party or pre-owned offers above the recommended price at Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop. Those were volatile listings reported on that date, not a universal resale price or a current offer. If the checkout total is materially above $899.99, consider waiting for a new unit at the recommended price rather than treating scarcity as proof that a markup is necessary.
Does GTA 6 make PS5 Pro worth buying?
The U.S. PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5, labels it PS5 Pro Enhanced, and gives a release date of November 19, 2026. The listing calls it a single-player experience. The Pro label indicates that an enhancement is identified, but it does not specify what changes.
Neither the PlayStation Store listing nor Sony’s June 24, 2026 article provides a GTA 6-specific comparison of PS5 and PS5 Pro resolution, frame rate, graphics modes, or measured visual improvements. Sony’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Mary Yee, said GTA VI “will play best on PS5” and cited the console’s immersive features; that is Sony’s marketing statement, not a quantified performance result. Do not buy the Pro on the assumption that GTA 6 is confirmed to run at a particular resolution or frame rate.

If your main goal is simply to play GTA 6, the listing establishes that the game is for PS5, not only PS5 Pro. Choose the Pro if its broader console features and the game’s indicated enhancement justify its cost to you; the available details do not establish how large the GTA 6-specific benefit will be.

Sony describes PS5 Pro as a 2TB console. It is sold without an optical disc drive, and Sony’s 2024 launch announcement says a DualSense controller is included. The separate Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5 is compatible with PS5 Pro; Sony says internet access is needed to pair the drive during setup.
Consider the drive if you want to play disc-based games or watch Blu-ray/DVD media. The cited official information does not establish whether GTA 6 will have a physical edition, so do not buy the drive specifically on the assumption that you will need it for this game. Sony also says Pro-enhanced features apply only to select games and vary by title.

At the time of the cited listing, the U.S. PlayStation Store displayed a $79.99 Standard Edition and a $99.99 Ultimate Edition. Store prices and preorder details can change; check the U.S. PlayStation Store listing before buying. Those game prices are separate from the console’s recommended price.
