When a PS5 homebrew app will not open, reload the jailbreak before changing files. A cold reboot—and usually Rest Mode—clears the exploit runtime, HEN, kernel patches, mounts and ELF-loader state. Run the firmware-appropriate exploit again, load HEN and any required payloads such as kstuff, ShadowMountPlus and elfldr, then test the app. For many folder-based apps, confirm that an ELF loader is listening on TCP port 9021; without it, the title cannot reach /data.
If the app still fails, work through the checks in order: title-ID allowlist, folder depth and eboot.bin, permissions, mount-service readiness, network path, package order, firmware compatibility and—when a store is involved—the console clock.
Why a PS5 homebrew app can stop working after it was installed
PS5 jailbreak functionality is a live runtime state, not a permanent modification that survives every restart. The exploit, HEN, kernel patches, storage mounts and user-space loaders are normally gone after a cold reboot and usually after Rest Mode. The icon may remain on the home screen, but the services the app needs are no longer running.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThat distinction explains a common pattern: an app launches once, the console reboots, and the same icon later produces an error, returns to the home screen or appears to do nothing. The first repair is therefore to rebuild the complete payload chain, not to reinstall the application.

The runtime components that may be required
- Firmware-appropriate exploit: establishes the jailbreak entry point for the console’s exact firmware.
- HEN: enables the homebrew execution environment and, on some setups, controls which title IDs may run.
- kstuff: supplies kernel patches needed by some package paths and installed titles.
- ShadowMountPlus: mounts folders or external-drive content when an app depends on those locations.
- ELF loader (
elfldr): commonly listens on TCP port 9021 and lets an app reach files under/data. - Mount or deployment service: makes uploaded folders visible to the title; uploading files alone does not always launch or mount the app.
Not every app needs every component. The correct combination depends on the app’s storage path, how it was deployed and the console firmware.

Step-by-step recovery procedure
1. Rebuild the jailbreak and payload chain
- After a cold reboot or Rest Mode, run the exploit that matches the PS5’s current firmware.
- Load HEN and wait for its completion message before starting another payload.
- Load
kstuffif the installed-package path or app documentation requires kernel patches. - Load
ShadowMountPluswhen the title is stored in a folder or on an external drive that must be mounted. - Start the ELF loader if the app accesses
/data, and note its listening port. - Only after the chain reports ready, close any stale crash dialog and launch the homebrew title again.
Do not assume that a successful exploit page means every payload has loaded. Each service has a separate job, and an app can fail when one link is missing even though HEN itself appears active.
2. Verify the ELF loader on TCP port 9021
Many folder-based workflows expect elfldr to listen on TCP port 9021. If the loader is not running, the app may report that it cannot reach /data or terminate immediately.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Start the loader through the method appropriate to your setup.
- Confirm that the loader reports port
9021and that the PS5 is using the same network address you entered on the computer. - If the loader cannot be started, add the app’s title ID to the HEN allowlist when that route is supported.
- Reload HEN after changing the allowlist, restart the loader and launch the app again.
The loader check is especially important when the files are present and permissions look correct: a complete folder cannot compensate for a missing process that provides the expected /data access.
3. Validate title-ID registration and allowlists
OnionHEN can reject an entire allowlist because of one malformed entry. Keep every title ID exactly nine characters, use uppercase characters, remove blank lines and do not leave a comma after the final item.
- Correct form:
PPSA99360. - Incorrect forms include a shortened or overlong ID, lowercase letters, an empty item between commas or a trailing comma.
- After editing, reload HEN rather than testing with the previous runtime state.
If one new title makes several previously working titles fail, inspect the whole list instead of only the newest entry; a single invalid token can invalidate the list.

4. Check the complete folder layout
The title directory must be complete and at the depth expected by the loader or mount service. For the documented example, the folder is copied as PPSA99360 to /data/homebrew/PPSA99360. The executable must be at the expected depth, normally as eboot.bin inside that title directory.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open the title folder and confirm that the required files are present, not only a nested archive or another copy of the folder.
- Check that the path is exactly
/data/homebrew/PPSA99360for this example, with no extra level such as/data/homebrew/PPSA99360/PPSA99360. - Confirm that
eboot.binis where the app’s loader expects it. - Remove incomplete or duplicate copies from directories that the mount service actively scans.
A title can be visible to a file-transfer client and still be invisible to the launcher if one directory level is wrong.
5. Correct permissions after FTP transfers
FTP clients and the process that receives a file can assign restrictive modes. ProsperoStore documentation identifies CE-107750-0 after such copies and specifies that the title folder and its files must be open to every user with permissions 777.
- Reconnect to the PS5 with the FTP client or shell used by your setup.
- Select the complete title directory, including subdirectories and files.
- Apply permissions
777recursively, using the client’s “recursive” or “apply to contained files” option. A shell-based workflow may use an equivalent recursivechmodon the title path. - Disconnect cleanly, reload the mount or HEN service if required, and launch again.
Apply the permission change to the title directory and its contents, not just to eboot.bin. A readable executable can still fail when a data file or subfolder remains inaccessible.
6. Wait for the mount or deployment service
Deployment tools can finish uploading before the console has mounted the title. They may also report a transfer complete without launching anything.
- Close the previous app and dismiss any crash dialog still open on the PS5.
- Start the deployment and wait for its explicit “ready” or “installed” confirmation.
- Do not launch while files are still being uploaded or indexed.
- Check active scan paths for duplicate title folders; two copies can cause the service to select an incomplete one.
- Launch only after the service confirms readiness.
If the app works after a delay, the issue was service timing rather than the title’s executable. Build that wait into your normal sequence.

7. Test the network path from the beginning
Payload delivery, FTP and loader communication all depend on the console and computer being reachable. On the PS5, open Settings → Network → View Connection Status and record the current IP address.
- Confirm the computer and PS5 are on the same LAN and that the address has not changed since the last session.
- Allow the payload engine, FTP server or loader through the computer’s firewall.
- Temporarily disable VPN or proxy interference while diagnosing.
- Check that the router does not use client isolation, which prevents devices on the same Wi-Fi from contacting each other.
- Use Ethernet for the PS5 or computer as the most reliable baseline; return to Wi-Fi after the wired path works.
A wrong address can look like a broken payload, while a blocked port can look like an app that has no files. Test connectivity before replacing the title.
8. Install packages in the correct order and verify kernel state
For package-based titles, install the base package before any update or DLC. Updates and add-on content depend on the base installation and can fail or produce an unlaunchable title when installed first.
- Open Debug Settings → Game → Package Installer.
- Install the base package and wait for completion.
- Install updates in the intended sequence.
- Install DLC only after the base and updates are present.
- If the title still does not start, confirm that the live kernel patches required by the package path are active.
- When appropriate, remove the failed installation and reinstall in that order.
Do not use a package-install fix for a folder-only app whose real problem is a missing mount or ELF loader. Identify the storage and transfer method first.
9. Match every payload to the console firmware
etaHEN, kstuff and other HEN routes cover different firmware ranges. A payload built for another firmware can load incompletely or fail silently, even when the exploit itself succeeds.
- Check the exact firmware number in the PS5 system information screen.
- Choose exploit, HEN, kstuff and loader builds that explicitly support that firmware.
- Do not mix payload files from different firmware guides unless their documentation says they are compatible.
- After changing a payload, reboot, rerun the exploit and load the complete chain again before testing.
- Consult the current release notes for the relevant project when support or behavior is unclear.
Firmware is a hard compatibility boundary, not a preference. If the same app works on one console but not another, compare firmware and payload builds before comparing the app files.

10. Correct the clock for store and download failures
Store workflows use HTTPS. If the PS5 date is far in the past or future, certificates can appear expired or not yet valid and a download may fail even though the network is healthy.
- Open Settings → System → Date and Time.
- Set the correct date, time and time zone, or enable the supported automatic setting.
- Retry the store operation.
- Inspect the store debug log if the failure continues; it can distinguish certificate validation from a transfer or mount error.
This check applies to HTTPS-based stores and downloads, not to every local folder launch.

The icon exists but launching returns to the menu
Start with the runtime chain: exploit, HEN, required kernel patches, mount service and loader. Then verify the title ID and folder permissions. A retained icon proves only that some registration data remains; it does not prove that the current session has the services needed to execute it.
The app says it cannot access /data
Check elfldr first. Start a listener on TCP port 9021, verify that the firewall permits it and relaunch. If the setup uses an allowlist, register the exact nine-character uppercase title ID, remove blank or trailing entries, reload HEN and test again.
The title is not listed at all
Inspect the storage mount and path. Confirm the complete directory, expected title-ID folder and eboot.bin depth. If the content is on USB or another external location, load the mounting payload before opening the launcher. Wait for the deployment service’s ready message and remove duplicate folders from scan paths.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCE-107750-0 appears after copying
Apply permissions 777 recursively to the title directory and every contained file. Recheck the path and restart the relevant service. If the error returns, recopy the complete folder and verify that the FTP client did not preserve restrictive modes.

The package is installed but it will not start
Confirm base-first installation, then updates and DLC. Verify active kernel patches and the firmware-appropriate kstuff or HEN route. Reinstall through Debug Settings → Game → Package Installer only after checking those prerequisites.
The transfer works on one network but not another
Compare the PS5 IP shown in Settings → Network → View Connection Status, firewall rules and router isolation. Test with both devices wired to the same router. Once the wired path succeeds, re-enable wireless or VPN features one at a time to identify the interfering setting.
Choose the fix by storage and transfer method
| Workflow | Typical location | Required checks | Common failure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Folder-based internal storage | /data/homebrew/<TITLEID> |
ELF loader, exact path, eboot.bin, permissions and title-ID registration |
App cannot reach /data or folder is one level too deep |
| USB or extended-storage folder | External drive mounted by the payload chain | ShadowMountPlus or equivalent mount service, complete folder and ready message | Files exist on USB but the console has not mounted the location |
| FTP transfer | Destination chosen in the FTP client | Correct PS5 IP, same LAN, firewall permission and recursive 777 modes |
CE-107750-0 or incomplete copy |
| Local host or ELF-loader launch | Files served through the network | elfldr listening on port 9021 and an allowlisted title ID where required |
Loader unreachable or title rejected before execution |
| Package installer | Installed game storage | Base package first, then updates and DLC; active kernel patches | Installed title returns an error or will not boot |
Use the row that matches how the title was deployed. For example, changing FTP permissions will not repair a package whose base content was never installed, and reinstalling a package will not create a missing ELF-loader process.
How to make the next session predictable
- Keep a note of the PS5 firmware and use payload files that explicitly support it.
- After every reboot or Rest Mode wake, run the exploit and reload the complete payload chain before opening homebrew.
- Use a fixed, known-good network path while troubleshooting, preferably wired.
- Record the title ID exactly as registered, including uppercase characters and no extra punctuation.
- Keep one complete copy of each title in the active scan location; archive duplicates elsewhere.
- For FTP workflows, verify recursive permissions immediately after copying instead of waiting for a launch error.
- For package workflows, preserve the base → update → DLC order.
- Wait for explicit mount or installation readiness messages before launching.
- Correct the console clock before diagnosing HTTPS store errors.
When to stop repeating the same fix
If the exploit, HEN, loader, path, permissions, network and package order all check out but one title still fails, isolate the title from the environment. Test a known-working homebrew app with the same payload chain and storage path. If the second app works, the failing title’s files, expected directory structure or firmware support are the remaining variables. If both fail, rebuild the runtime chain and revisit firmware compatibility rather than repeatedly copying the same files.
Keep changes reversible: change one variable at a time, note which payload was loaded, and retest after a clean reboot. That method separates a stale runtime state from a bad transfer and prevents a working setup from being obscured by several simultaneous changes.
