Yes. A PS5 can send its HDMI signal through a splitter to two displays at once. The splitter duplicates the picture; it does not let you choose one display as the active destination. Whether the setup preserves 4K at 120 Hz, HDR, or VRR depends on the splitter and every other part of the signal chain, so verify the result on the PS5 rather than relying on a product’s headline resolution.
Choose the right device for your goal
| What you want to do | Device or check | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Show the same PS5 picture on a TV and monitor simultaneously | 1-input, 2-output HDMI splitter | It distributes one source to both displays. The displays may not support the same resolution or features. |
| Select one display at a time | HDMI switch designed to select between routes | A splitter duplicates a source; it is not the right category to assume will select a single destination. |
| Display gameplay while capturing it | Check the splitter and capture-device manuals together | HDCP compliance listed for a splitter does not establish compatibility with every capture card or protected video. |
Will a splitter keep PS5 4K at 120 Hz, HDR, and VRR?
Possibly, but only if the complete connection supports the mode. PlayStation Support states that “The PS5 console supports the HDMI 2.1 specification, and it also supports 4K 120Hz video output.” Sony also identifies intermediary equipment, including receivers, as a possible cause of 4K/120Hz problems. A splitter is another intermediary, so the console’s capability alone does not guarantee the same output through it.
Check the exact splitter specification for the resolution and refresh-rate combination you need, not just a maximum resolution. Then confirm that each display’s HDMI input supports the desired mode, that the cable is suitable, and that the relevant TV input format is enabled. VRR results can vary by TV; HDR and VRR support on a splitter do not guarantee they will work with every connected display combination.
What to look for in specifications
- Output arrangement: Confirm it is one input and two outputs and that it is intended to mirror the source to both displays.
- Exact video mode: Look for the target resolution and refresh rate together, as well as stated bandwidth. A resolution claim by itself does not establish 4K/120Hz support.
- Features: If needed, verify explicit support for HDR formats, VRR, and ALLM, along with the displays’ capabilities on the selected inputs.
- HDCP and capture: Check the splitter and capture-device documentation for the relevant requirements; do not infer universal capture compatibility from an HDCP version.
- Different display capabilities: Check how the splitter handles EDID and any per-output downscaling if the two displays have different modes.
- Practical requirements: Confirm power supply, cable requirements, and compatibility with the actual ports in your setup.
Example: what one model’s manual claims
The OREI VLSP-12H21SA manual, version 1.0, describes a powered 1-in/2-out splitter and lists HDMI 2.1, HDCP 2.3, up to 48 Gbps FRL, 4K/120Hz 4:4:4, VRR, FVA, ALLM, HDR formats, EDID management, and per-output downscaling/conversion. These are manufacturer specifications for that model, not independent performance results or a guarantee that every combination of displays will retain every feature. Check the current product information and manual before choosing it.

Connect and verify the splitter
- Connect the PS5’s HDMI output to the splitter’s HDMI input. Connect each splitter output to a display. The OREI manual describes this input-and-two-output arrangement and gives PS5 as an example source.
- Use the PS5’s included HDMI cable or an Ultra-High-Speed HDMI cable for a 4K/120Hz path, as Sony recommends. Connect to a TV HDMI port that supports the target mode.
- Enable the TV input’s appropriate enhanced signal format. Sony’s guide names options such as “Enhanced format (4K120, 8K)” or “Enhanced format (VRR),” depending on the TV’s capability and menu. Menu labels and availability vary by model and region.
- On PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Check Current Video Output Signal and the settings or reported status for resolution, 120 Hz Output, VRR, HDR, and Video Transfer Rate. The console reports connected HDMI-device details including resolution, VRR, and HDR.
- Confirm the actual output with both displays connected. A splitter’s listed capabilities are not proof that the full combination is negotiating the intended mode.
Troubleshoot a blank, flickering, or reduced-resolution picture
- Connect the PS5 directly to the display and check whether the target mode works. If it does, reconnect the splitter; this comparison helps identify whether the intermediary is affecting the signal.
- Check that the display and the specific HDMI port support the desired mode, and that the TV’s enhanced format setting is enabled for that input.
- Check the cable and splitter specifications against the target mode. Sony recommends checking the cable, intermediary devices, display capability, firmware, HDMI port, and PS5 output settings when 4K/120Hz does not work.
- Review PS5 Video Output settings and the Current Video Output Signal to see what the connected equipment is reporting.
- If the splitter has EDID controls, consult its own manual before changing them. EDID modes can advertise different resolution and audio capabilities to the source, affecting what signal the PS5 sends.
