Yes—but only in a limited research-stage demonstration. A modified version of the open-source KytyPS5 emulator, called PS5X, has reportedly booted several PS5 game builds on an Xbox Series X running Developer Mode. This does not mean Xbox owners can generally play PS5 games, and a public, consumer-ready PS5X release has not been established.
What is PS5X?
PS5X is described by developer Devran Cosmo Uenal as an experimental Xbox port of KytyPS5, an open-source PS5 emulator. The experiment uses Xbox Series X Developer Mode to run PS5 software builds. The developer’s post describes the project as a research effort, not a consumer product or a general-purpose way to access the PS5 game library: developer post.
VideoCardz reported on September 21, 2026, that the port had run four PS5 game builds on Xbox Series X. The report is the source for the titles and performance observations below; they should be understood as reported demonstration results, not independent testing: VideoCardz report.

Which PS5 games were shown running?

The report says all four titles recognized Xbox controller input and that some had working audio, without identifying which games had audio. The Quake II frame-rate estimate applies only to that footage; it does not establish performance for the other titles or for PS5 games generally.

Can Xbox Series X owners play PS5 games this way now?
Not on the evidence available. The demonstration shows that several specific builds booted in a particular experimental setup. It does not establish a public PS5X download, a stable installation process for ordinary users, broad compatibility, or a supported way to use the console as a PS5 substitute.
Xbox Developer Mode is part of the reported demonstration environment, but the existence of that mode does not itself provide PS5X or the game files it needs. The project’s repository characterizes KytyPS5 as early-stage, warns that compatibility is limited, and notes that behavior may change significantly between builds: KytyPS5 project repository.

What the demonstration does—and does not—show
- It shows: a KytyPS5-derived experimental port reportedly booting four named PS5 game builds on Xbox Series X in Developer Mode.
- It also reports: Xbox controller input in all four titles, audio in some unspecified titles, and an approximate 25–45 FPS observation for Quake II footage.
- It does not show: a complete or broadly compatible PS5 emulator for Xbox, reliable performance across the PS5 library, or a public consumer-ready release.
- It does not establish: a verified download or installation guide, an independently maintained Xbox compatibility list, or that owning an Xbox Series X gives someone access to PS5 games.
These distinctions matter because emulator compatibility is title- and build-specific. A game reaching a bootable state is not proof that it runs reliably from start to finish, and one game’s observed frame rate cannot be generalized to other games.

Game files and legal considerations
The KytyPS5 repository says the project does not distribute games or copyrighted system software and advises users to use legally obtained game files. That project policy is not a universal legal ruling: rules on emulation, copying, and game files can vary by jurisdiction and circumstance. The reported demonstration does not establish that PS5X distributes or supplies any game or system files.
