PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play lets other users of one designated PS5 play games and use media that the account holder purchased and downloaded, including while that console is offline. Selected PlayStation Plus benefits may also be shared. It does not move purchases to another account. Share Play is separate: it streams a host’s game to a remote visitor, who can watch or participate without owning the game.
What PS5 Console Sharing actually does
Console Sharing and Offline Play is a setting attached to a PlayStation account, not a permanent transfer of that account’s library. Sony automatically allows the setting on the first PS5 where the account signs in. Once enabled, other people using that same PS5 can access eligible content associated with the account.
PlayStation Support describes the shared content as games and media purchased and downloaded by the account holder. The access applies on that particular console and can work when the console is offline. The other user does not become the purchaser, and the purchase is not moved into that user’s account. The official setup and entitlement details are documented by PlayStation Support.

Games and media available to other users
Purchased and downloaded games
With Console Sharing enabled, any user profile on that PS5 can play games that the account holder purchased and downloaded. The license remains associated with the purchasing account; the practical benefit is that the other profile can launch and play the installed title on the enabled console.

If a title was never purchased or downloaded by the account that enabled sharing, another profile cannot use Console Sharing to manufacture access to it. For a missing game, PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance says to verify that the user who enabled sharing actually purchased the content.
Media
Sony’s description also includes purchased and downloaded media. The same console-based qualification applies: the setting allows use by people using that PS5, rather than transferring the media license to their individual accounts.
Offline use
Offline play is part of the feature’s name and purpose. When the setting is enabled, other users can use eligible purchased and downloaded games and media on that PS5 even when the console is offline. A license or network problem can still produce a padlock icon, so offline availability does not override an account or licensing error.
Which PlayStation Plus benefits are shared
PlayStation Plus sharing is selective. Sony identifies online multiplayer as an example of a benefit that can be shared on a primary PS4 and on one PS5 with Console Sharing enabled. This does not mean every Plus feature automatically becomes available to every profile.

Any benefit supplied through a subscription depends on the subscription remaining active. A game supplied through a catalog or monthly entitlement must also remain available under the applicable Plus terms. If the subscription expires or a catalog title leaves the service, Console Sharing cannot preserve that entitlement. Check the current benefit rules on PlayStation Plus Support.
- Likely shared example: online multiplayer on the enabled PS5, as identified by Sony.
- Not an automatic guarantee: every Plus feature, discount, cloud-related function or catalog entitlement.
- Always conditional: the subscription must be active, and subscription-provided games must still be available.
How to enable Console Sharing and Offline Play
Use the account that owns the games or subscription benefits. The following path is Sony’s current PS5 menu route:
- Sign in to the purchasing PlayStation account on the PS5 you want to designate.
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Open Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
On the first PS5 used to sign in, Sony says the setting is automatically allowed. The menu still lets you confirm whether it is enabled. If another PS5 already has the setting enabled for the account, disable it there before enabling the new console. How to move sharing to a different PS5
When you still have the old console
- On the old PS5, sign in to the account that currently has Console Sharing enabled.
- Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Disable.
- Sign in to the same account on the new PS5.
- Use the same menu and select Enable.
Until the old console is disabled, the new PS5 cannot become the account’s sharing console because the setting is limited to one PS5 at a time.

When the old console is unavailable
PlayStation Account Management provides a remote option to deactivate all devices. Sony limits that all-device remote deactivation to once every six months, so it is not an unlimited emergency reset. After using it, sign in on the replacement PS5 and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play from the console menu. Account and security support is available through PlayStation Account & Security.
Why a shared game or benefit may not appear
The wrong account purchased the content
Confirm that the account with Console Sharing enabled is the account that purchased the game or media. Signing in with a different profile and enabling sharing there does not expose purchases made by another account.
The Plus subscription is inactive
For a subscription-provided game or benefit, check that the purchasing account’s PlayStation Plus subscription is active. Also verify that the title is still available under the current subscription catalog or entitlement.
A padlock appears on the game
A padlock can indicate a license or network issue. Check the purchasing account, confirm the PS5 is the designated sharing console, and reconnect the console if the entitlement needs to be validated. If the game came from Plus, verify both subscription status and current availability.

The account is already sharing another PS5
If the setting is enabled elsewhere, disable it on that console first. If you cannot reach it, use Sony’s all-device remote deactivation, remembering the six-month limit.
Console Sharing versus Share Play
These features solve different problems. Console Sharing is for people using the same designated PS5. Share Play is a remote, streamed session between a host and a visitor. PlayStation’s Share Play instructions are at How to start Share Play on your PS5 console.

Share Play limits to explain before inviting someone
Visitor and time limits
Only one visitor can join a Share Play session at a time. Each session lasts one hour and ends automatically one hour after the visitor joins. Starting another session is therefore different from leaving a permanent shared library available.
Play-together requirements
The host must have PlayStation Plus to start Share Play. A visitor can watch without owning the game, but both players need Plus when the host chooses the play-together mode.

Age, region and parental controls
Share Play is subject to age-rating and parental-control restrictions. The game must also be available in the visitor’s country or region. A title that the host can play may therefore be unavailable for that particular visitor.
What the visitor cannot do
Visitors cannot save screenshots or video clips during the Share Play session, and some scenes may not appear. The visitor’s own game is suspended while the session is active, and online game connections may need to be established again after Share Play ends.
Common household and friend scenarios
Two profiles on one family PS5
Sign in with the account that bought the games, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play, and let the second profile use the designated PS5. The second profile can play eligible purchased and downloaded titles offline, but it does not receive those purchases as its own account library.

Disable Console Sharing on the old console before setting up the replacement. If the old machine cannot be accessed, use remote all-device deactivation, taking into account Sony’s once-per-six-month limit.
Demonstrating a game to a remote friend
Use Share Play rather than changing the account’s console setting. The friend can watch or participate in the streamed session without buying the game, subject to the Plus, one-hour, one-visitor, region and parental-control restrictions.
Decision checklist
- Choose Console Sharing when another person uses the same PS5 and needs access to the account holder’s downloaded games or media.
- Choose Share Play when a remote friend needs to watch or temporarily participate without owning the game.
- Before troubleshooting, identify which account purchased the content and whether a Plus subscription is active.
- Remember that only one PS5 can be enabled for Console Sharing at a time.
- Do not use remote all-device deactivation casually; Sony limits it to once every six months.
The practical answer for each account
The purchasing account keeps the licenses and controls the Console Sharing setting. Other profiles on the enabled PS5 gain console-level access to eligible purchased and downloaded games and media, including offline use, and may receive selected Plus benefits while the subscription and title availability remain valid. A remote friend using Share Play receives only a streamed session under its time, visitor, region, age and subscription rules. Neither method turns another profile into the purchaser.
