There is no dependable, universal PC specification for PS5 emulation. Current project documentation identifies a 64-bit x86 processor and a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with current drivers as a KytyPS5 baseline, while SharpEmu requires a Vulkan-capable GPU and current graphics driver. Those checks may let an emulator build start; they do not promise a playable frame rate, broad game compatibility or stability.

The practical question is whether your exact game, emulator build, host operating system and graphics driver are known to work together. Treat published requirements as eligibility checks, then verify game-specific compatibility and sustained stability before buying hardware.

The short answer: a baseline is not a playable-performance guarantee

PS5 emulation remains an experimental, rapidly changing area. KytyPS5 describes itself as early-stage and warns users to expect crashes, graphical glitches, low compatibility and poor performance. SharpEmu also calls itself experimental, with development focused on accuracy and core infrastructure rather than a broad list of game-specific compatibility claims.

That status explains why a simple shopping list such as “buy this CPU, this GPU and this much RAM” would be misleading. A 64-bit processor and a Vulkan-capable graphics card are necessary conditions for the documented projects, but they are not a universal recommended specification. Different games exercise different graphics paths, operating-system services, shader workloads and asset systems. A build that boots one title can fail to render, crash or remain unplayable in another.

As of the project information reviewed on October 13, 2026, no controlled cross-game benchmark establishes a universal minimum or recommended CPU, GPU or RAM capacity for PS5 emulation. Requirements and compatibility can change with every emulator release, driver update and game-specific fix.

What the current projects actually document

KytyPS5

  • CPU: a 64-bit x86 processor.
  • Graphics: a GPU capable of Vulkan 1.3, using current drivers.
  • Operating system: Windows 10 version 1803 or newer, a current Linux distribution, or macOS on Apple Silicon. macOS support is described as experimental; its x86-64 build on Apple Silicon uses Rosetta 2.
  • Project status: Windows receives the most testing, while compatibility, stability and performance remain limited and variable.

KytyPS5 does not publish a numeric CPU model, processor tier, universal RAM minimum or graphics-card tier that guarantees a target frame rate. Its Vulkan requirement is an API and driver compatibility check, not a promise that every Vulkan 1.3 device will run games at full speed.

SharpEmu

  • Graphics: a Vulkan-capable GPU and a current graphics driver.
  • CPU, RAM and operating-system tiers: the reviewed project documentation does not establish universal numeric values.
  • Project status: experimental, with an emphasis on emulator accuracy and infrastructure. The project says compatibility and performance vary by game, operating system and GPU driver.

Because the two projects document different levels of detail, do not combine one project’s baseline with the other’s as if they formed a single specification. Check the requirements and release notes for the particular build you intend to use.

Memory, CPU and GPU: what is known and what is not

RAM

The reviewed KytyPS5 and SharpEmu documentation does not establish a universal numeric RAM minimum or recommended capacity. Do not import memory figures from PS4 emulator guides or generic requirement pages: a PS4 emulator’s requirements are not evidence for PS5 emulation. More RAM may help a host system avoid paging when several applications are open, but the available project sources do not support a PS5-specific capacity threshold or a performance claim.

CPU capability

KytyPS5’s documented CPU baseline is architectural: 64-bit x86. The sources do not identify a universal processor model, core count, clock speed or CPU-versus-GPU bottleneck. Emulation work can differ substantially between games and builds, so selecting a processor solely by a claimed “PS5 emulation tier” would go beyond the evidence. Compare a candidate CPU only after checking reports for the game and build you care about.

GPU and Vulkan

Vulkan support is the clearest graphics eligibility test in the documentation. KytyPS5 specifies Vulkan 1.3; SharpEmu specifies a Vulkan-capable GPU and current driver. The exact renderer, shader behavior and driver interaction still determine whether a supported card renders correctly and at useful speed. A card can expose the required API and nevertheless show glitches, compile shaders slowly, crash or perform poorly in a particular title.

Why the same PC can behave differently from game to game

Game and emulator compatibility

Each title depends on a different mix of system services, graphics features, shaders and content. Compatibility is therefore a property of the game-plus-emulator combination, not just of the computer. KytyPS5 documents limited compatibility and expected crashes and glitches; SharpEmu cautions that its current focus is not yet broad, game-specific compatibility. A successful boot is only the first checkpoint: menus, rendering, audio, saving, loading and long play sessions can fail later.

Driver and API behavior

The Vulkan version number tells you whether the basic API requirement is present. It does not describe every extension, shader compiler behavior or synchronization path used by a title. SharpEmu explicitly identifies GPU drivers as a source of performance variation. A current driver is therefore part of the requirement, but “current” should be interpreted relative to the emulator’s release notes and known compatibility reports, not simply the newest package available.

Operating-system implementation

Host operating systems expose different graphics, threading and file-system behavior. KytyPS5 says Windows receives the most testing and labels macOS support experimental. SharpEmu likewise says performance varies across operating systems. Two otherwise similar PCs can produce different results when one uses a better-tested host platform or a different driver stack.

Stability and sustained performance

Average or peak frames per second are only one part of playability. A title that reaches a high rate in an opening scene may later crash, display missing effects or suffer severe stutter. Evaluate whether a game remains stable through loading screens, extended play and demanding areas, not just whether a short clip shows a desirable number.

Dated performance evidence, with the necessary limits

One published report illustrates both what a powerful system can achieve in a particular test and why it cannot become a universal buying recommendation. Tom’s Hardware reported on September 6, 2026 that PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC ran locked at 60 FPS on an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X. In a separate test, the PS5 version of GTA V ran at roughly 40–60 FPS during its opening mission on a Ryzen 7 9950X3D and RX 7900 XT, then crashed shortly afterward.

Game and source Test hardware Reported observation How to interpret it
PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC, Tom’s Hardware, 2026 AMD Ryzen 7 7700X; AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Locked at 60 FPS in the reported test A game-specific result, not a minimum or recommended PS5-emulation specification
GTA V PS5 version, Tom’s Hardware, 2026 Ryzen 7 9950X3D; RX 7900 XT Approximately 40–60 FPS in the opening mission, followed by a crash Shows why a short frame-rate segment does not prove sustained playability

These observations are tied to named games, configurations and test conditions. They are not controlled comparisons across titles, and they do not establish that an RX 6700 XT, Ryzen 7 7700X or any higher-tier part is a minimum or recommended choice for PS5 emulation in general.

A practical pre-purchase check for your PC

  1. Name the target game. Start with the title you actually want to run. Compatibility reports are more useful than a generic emulator success list because they reveal rendering defects, crashes and known workarounds for that game.
  2. Identify the emulator and exact build. Record the release version or commit used by a compatibility report. An older report may describe behavior that has since changed, and a newer build may introduce regressions.
  3. Verify the host operating system. Confirm that your Windows version, Linux distribution or Apple Silicon/macOS setup is listed for the build. Treat experimental macOS support differently from a platform receiving the project’s most testing.
  4. Check the CPU architecture. KytyPS5 requires a 64-bit x86 processor. Confirm the architecture rather than relying on a product’s marketing name. Do not assume that a faster-looking model guarantees a particular emulation speed.
  5. Confirm Vulkan support and driver currency. Use your operating system’s graphics-information utility or the GPU vendor’s diagnostic tool to verify that the required Vulkan level is exposed. Then compare the installed driver with the version recommended in the emulator’s current documentation.
  6. Read game-specific reports for stability. Look beyond a boot screenshot or a single FPS number. Check whether users report playable menus, correct rendering, reliable saves, acceptable shader stutter and stable extended sessions.
  7. Test before committing to an upgrade. If possible, run the exact build and game on your existing system. Record frame pacing and crashes during representative sections; a short launch test cannot answer the sustained-playability question.

How to compare CPU and GPU options without inventing a tier list

Decision axis What to verify Why it matters
CPU 64-bit x86 support for KytyPS5; game- and build-specific reports for speed The official baseline is architectural, not a universal model or frame-rate tier
GPU Vulkan 1.3 for KytyPS5, or Vulkan capability for SharpEmu, with a current driver API eligibility does not guarantee renderer correctness or performance
Operating system Whether the exact build supports your Windows, Linux or Apple Silicon/macOS environment Testing coverage and implementation behavior differ by host platform
Target game Compatibility and stability reports for the title, not merely emulator boot status Game-specific services, shaders and assets determine the result
Evidence quality Sustained sessions and crash reports rather than a peak or short FPS clip High frame rates can coexist with later crashes or severe rendering defects

This framework favors evidence over a component hierarchy. A more expensive GPU cannot compensate for an unsupported API, an incompatible driver or an emulator defect in a particular game. Likewise, a powerful CPU does not turn an experimental build into a stable console replacement.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Treating a Vulkan check as a performance test

Seeing Vulkan 1.3 in a diagnostic tool proves only that the API requirement is exposed. It does not test the emulator’s renderer, shader compilation or title-specific behavior. Follow the API check with a compatibility report and an actual run of the game.

Copying PS4 emulator requirements

PS4 and PS5 emulators target different hardware and software environments. A RAM figure or CPU recommendation published for a PS4 project cannot be presented as a PS5 requirement. Use only the current PS5 project’s own documentation and game reports.

Buying from one impressive benchmark

The PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC and GTA V observations demonstrate that results can differ sharply between games, and that a high frame rate can precede a crash. Treat every benchmark as a dated, game-specific observation with no universal threshold attached.

Ignoring the operating system and driver

A compatible GPU on an experimental host platform may behave differently from the same card under the project’s best-tested operating system. Record the OS and driver alongside any performance report so that you are comparing like with like.

Assuming more RAM solves compatibility defects

No reviewed project establishes a universal numeric RAM requirement. Additional memory cannot fix missing emulator features, unsupported graphics paths, driver bugs or a game-specific crash. Diagnose those issues at the compatibility and software layers first.

Can you actually play PS5 games on a PC today?

Sometimes, for particular games and builds, but not with the consistency expected from a mature console emulator. The documented projects remain experimental. KytyPS5’s own warning—“Expect crashes, graphical glitches, low compatibility, and poor performance.”—is a more accurate expectation than any universal hardware shopping list. SharpEmu similarly emphasizes infrastructure and accuracy while noting that compatibility and performance vary by game, operating system and GPU driver.

For that reason, the safest buying decision is conditional: choose hardware only after confirming that your target title has a current, credible compatibility report on the same emulator family, host operating system and driver branch. If that evidence is missing, a hardware upgrade is a gamble rather than a supported path to playable PS5 software.

What to monitor as projects change

  • New emulator releases can add support, alter performance or introduce regressions.
  • Graphics-driver updates can change Vulkan behavior and shader compilation.
  • Compatibility reports may be invalidated when a game or emulator build changes.
  • Project documentation can revise supported operating systems and minimum API versions.

Recheck the current KytyPS5 or SharpEmu documentation and the game’s compatibility reports immediately before a purchase or a major system upgrade. The absence of a universal numeric recommendation is not an omission to fill with a guess; it reflects how build-sensitive PS5 emulation remains.
