No—Sony does not document native QHD (2560 × 1440) output for the PS4 Slim. You can connect the console to a QHD monitor by HDMI, but a working connection does not mean the Slim is sending a 1440p signal. Sony’s published PS4 output modes stop at 1080p; a monitor may scale that input to fit its panel.
What resolution does the PS4 Slim output?
Sony’s PS4 FAQ lists HDMI video standards of 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, and says the console adjusts its resolution automatically for the connected TV or monitor. The FAQ is a 2013 source for the base PS4, rather than a Slim-specific manual. Sony’s later specifications identify the CUH-2000 series as PS4 and list HDMI output, but do not document a native 2560 × 1440 mode for the Slim.

Will a QHD monitor work with a PS4 Slim?
It may display the console’s picture if the monitor accepts the HDMI signal and timing. In that case, the monitor—not the PS4 Slim—is responsible for scaling the lower-resolution input to fit its 2560 × 1440 panel. Scaling quality and accepted input timings vary by monitor, and Sony does not guarantee compatibility with every QHD display.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Connect the console’s HDMI OUT port to the monitor’s HDMI input, then select that input on the monitor. If there is no picture, check the cable connection and input selection first. The available Sony material does not establish that every QHD monitor will accept the Slim’s output.
Why do some PS4 specifications mention 1440p?
Sony’s Canada specifications page separates PS4 Slim-family information from PS4 Pro features. Its statement that game resolution ranges from 1080p to 1440p on an HD TV appears in the PS4 Pro section, alongside selected games at native 2160p. Those claims apply to PS4 Pro, not the Slim.

- Quality Visuals: The KG271U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provide the smoothest gaming experience.
- Up to 180Hz: The 180Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of up to 180Hz, Acer Gaming Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be all rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG271U Gaming Monitor.
- New Depths of Color Accuracy: is monitor is ideal for color-critical projects producing accurate colors, supporting DCI-P3 95%. An amazing monitor for graphic designers, photographers, and film editors.
For the Slim, the relevant distinction is the documented output modes: Sony lists up to 1080p in its general PS4 FAQ, not native QHD. A QHD screen can still show an image if it accepts the HDMI input, but that is different from the console producing 1440p.

Does HDR mean the PS4 Slim supports QHD?
No. Sony lists HDR support for the CUH-2000-series PS4, but HDR describes a display feature, not the resolution sent by the console. HDR support does not add a QHD output mode.

- 27-inch 2560 x 1440 HDR gaming monitor with ultrafast 180Hz refresh rate designed for professional gamers and immersive gameplay
- ASUS Fast IPS technology enables a 1ms response time (GTG) for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates
- ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB SYNC) technology enables ELMB together with variable refresh rate, eliminating ghosting and tearing for sharp gaming visuals with high frame rates.
- DisplayWidget Center enables easy OSD access and monitor settings adjustments with a mouse.
- USB Type-C hub supports video transmission in DisplayPort signal; can serve as a USB hub, meaning that you can connect your device to your wired peripherals with clutter-free set-up
Sony’s HDR setup guidance calls for an HDR-compatible display and content, a Premium HDMI cable, and HDR and Deep Color set to Automatic under Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings. Sony also specifies system software 7.0 or later for HDR setup. These requirements concern HDR, not QHD output.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you choose if you want native 1440p?
Do not buy a QHD monitor expecting the PS4 Slim to drive it at native 2560 × 1440. If you already own a QHD monitor, check its manual for supported HDMI input resolutions and scaling behavior; the Slim may still provide a usable picture at a supported lower resolution. A different HDMI cable cannot add a resolution mode the console does not document.
