Progressive reported $4.60 in adjusted earnings per share (EPS) for the third quarter of 2026, topping Zacks’ $4.46 consensus estimate by 3.14%. Revenue was $23.36 billion, which Zacks said was 0.22% below its consensus forecast. Zacks Equity Research published those comparisons on October 14, 2026, the day Progressive’s September-quarter release was scheduled on the company’s investor-relations calendar.
What Progressive reported for Q3 2026
The headline result is mixed: Progressive exceeded the named analyst baseline on adjusted EPS but came in slightly below it on revenue. Using Zacks’ October 14, 2026 figures, the company delivered $0.14 more adjusted EPS than expected, while revenue was only marginally under the forecast.
| Measure | Progressive actual | Zacks consensus | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjusted EPS | $4.60 | $4.46 | 3.14% positive surprise |
| Revenue | $23.36 billion | Not stated as an exact dollar figure; Zacks reported the actual was 0.22% below consensus | 0.22% miss |
The EPS and revenue figures are adjusted and reported as presented by Zacks Equity Research. They should not be treated as a comparison with GAAP earnings unless Progressive’s release separately identifies a GAAP measure.
Did Progressive beat Q3 EPS estimates?
Yes. Progressive’s $4.60 adjusted EPS exceeded Zacks’ $4.46 consensus by $0.14 per share, producing a 3.14% positive surprise. This is the clearest answer to the commonly asked “Did PGR beat earnings?” question: it beat the Zacks EPS estimate.

Did Progressive miss revenue estimates?
Yes, against the same Zacks baseline. Zacks reported Q3 revenue of $23.36 billion, 0.22% below its consensus estimate. That is a narrow revenue miss rather than a large shortfall, but it means the quarter did not beat both major headline measures.
How the estimate changed before the release
Zacks’ pre-release preview, published October 12, 2026, projected adjusted EPS of $4.43 and revenue of $23.4 billion. Zacks also said its EPS estimate had risen 2.5% during the preceding seven days.

| Zacks snapshot | Adjusted EPS estimate | Revenue estimate | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-release preview | $4.43 | $23.4 billion | October 12, 2026 |
| Post-release comparison | $4.46 consensus | Actual was 0.22% below consensus | October 14, 2026 |
| Reported result | $4.60 actual | $23.36 billion actual | Q3 2026 |
Against the October 12 EPS projection, the $4.60 result was $0.17 higher, or about 3.84%. The pre-release revenue figure was rounded to $23.4 billion, so it should not be used as a more precise benchmark than the later Zacks comparison.

| Provider and snapshot | EPS estimate | Revenue estimate | Actual-versus-estimate context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zacks Equity Research, October 14, 2026 | $4.46 | Actual reported 0.22% below consensus | $4.60 EPS beat |
| TipRanks, page accessed October 18, 2026 | $4.05 | $22.28 billion | Actual EPS was $0.55 higher; actual revenue was $1.08 billion higher |
| MarketBeat, page accessed October 18, 2026 | $4.35 | $22.61 billion | Actual EPS was $0.25 higher; actual revenue was $0.75 billion higher |
Using the published figures, the actual EPS was approximately 13.6% above TipRanks’ $4.05 snapshot and 5.7% above MarketBeat’s $4.35 snapshot. Revenue was approximately 4.8% above TipRanks’ $22.28 billion figure and 3.3% above MarketBeat’s $22.61 billion figure. Those percentages are arithmetic comparisons, not evidence that one provider’s methodology is superior.
For an accurate earnings-surprise calculation, always identify the provider and the date beside the estimate. Mixing Progressive’s $4.60 result with one site’s EPS baseline and another site’s revenue baseline can create a misleading “beat” or “miss.”

- Profitability: Adjusted EPS beat the Zacks consensus by 3.14%.
- Top-line performance: Revenue missed the Zacks consensus by 0.22%.
- Estimate momentum: Zacks’ EPS forecast had increased 2.5% over the seven days before its October 12 preview.
- Data quality: Other providers displayed lower EPS and revenue expectations, so the size of the apparent surprise changes with the selected source.
Investors reading the result should therefore separate the earnings measure from the revenue measure and state the consensus source. “Progressive beat estimates” is accurate for Zacks-adjusted EPS, but incomplete if it implies a revenue beat as well.
