Our verdict on Zebra2

Zebra2 is a modular software synthesizer from u-he for musicians, composers, producers and sound designers. Its patching grid lets users combine dynamically displayed modules for oscillator, filtering, modulation, sequencing and effects work. The synthesis engine includes four wavetable oscillators with spectral effects, a dedicated frequency modulation oscillator, multiple filter and distortion modules, wavefolding, mixing tools, per-voice and global LFOs, multi-stage envelopes, modulation mapping, and a 12-slot modulation matrix. It operates as a plug-in rather than a standalone application and supports Windows, macOS and Linux.

Its strongest case is depth within a modular workflow. The 16-step arpeggiator and sequencer extend the sound-design system into rhythmic and melodic programming, while chorus, phaser, delay, reverb, compressor and equalizer modules cover common finishing tasks inside the instrument. The published category specifications list CLAP, AUv2, VST3 and AAX support, and the factory library contains approximately 551 presets. Native Instruments NKS compatibility, along with integration for Maschine and Komplete Kontrol, makes it a practical fit for users working within that ecosystem.

Zebra2 suits producers and sound designers who want to build detailed patches rather than rely only on fixed signal paths. Its current distribution through Zebra Legacy is an important part of the buying decision, since Zebra2 is not sold individually.
