Writer Studio review
A focused desktop workspace for drafting, organizing, checking and exporting books.

Writer Studio is a desktop writing application for novelists and other book authors who want one place for drafting, organizing and finishing a book. Its scene-based editor structures manuscripts into scenes, chapters and parts, while the Book Wiki stores characters, locations and plotlines. Core writing works offline without an account, with search across the manuscript, synopses, wiki and notes, plus writing goals, timed sprints and progress statistics.
The Free plan covers core writing, the Book Wiki, proofreading, exports, local backups and version history. Starter costs $9.99 per month, Author costs $14.99 per month, and Master costs $24.99 per month; each paid tier adds Managed Authr AI, active publications beyond the free one and reader analytics. The optional AI assistant uses approval-based changes, giving authors control over edits. Authr Plus plans are activated manually after payment rather than through self-serve checkout, so the purchase process includes an extra step.
Writer Studio’s strongest fit is a solo author working primarily on Windows, macOS or Linux who values local files, offline checks and extensive export options. Projects are stored as readable local Markdown and JSON files, and manuscripts can be exported to DOCX, EPUB, FB2, PDF and Markdown. Private beta-reader sharing supports feedback and analytics, while online services handle managed AI, publications and reader analytics. The desktop-only deployment makes it less suitable for writers who need mobile apps, and its alpha label may deter buyers seeking a more established product. Choose it for focused, book-length desktop writing; consider an alternative if mobile access is essential.
