Wolfram|Alpha answers free-form computational questions using Wolfram's curated knowledgebase. It covers mathematics, statistics, science, engineering, finance and other domains, making it relevant to learners, educators, professionals and general users who need more than a conventional calculator. Its breadth is a particular fit for people who move between equation solving, matrix operations, complex numbers and statistical analysis. It is less suited to anyone who needs a calculator that works without an internet connection.

The service has a free Basic plan, which includes customizable preferences. According to the published plans, Pro adds step-by-step solutions, practice problems, guided calculators, twice the extended computation time, data and image uploads up to 2MB, and customized graphics with downloadable results. Pro Premium includes those features, triples the extended computation time, raises the upload limit to 5MB and adds priority support from experts. The published starting price is $5 per month on an annual-billing equivalent basis. That makes the free tier a way to access computational answers, while paid plans are aimed at users who need worked explanations, uploads or more computation time.

Wolfram|Alpha is available through the web, Windows and macOS, iOS and Android apps, a Chrome extension and APIs for programmable integration. This gives it options for both individual queries and software-connected workflows. The main trade-off is connectivity: the service requires web access and does not work offline. Choose it for wide-ranging computational coverage and multiple access routes; consider an alternative if offline use is essential or if your needs are limited to a simple calculator.
