Wire is a secure collaboration platform for teams and organizations that need encrypted messaging alongside calling and file collaboration. It combines private and public channels, audio and video conferencing, screen sharing, file sharing, document collaboration, audio and video messages, guest links, and self-deleting messages. Clients are available across web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, while enterprise deployments can use self-hosted or private-cloud options. Its strongest fit is for organizations where security controls and federation matter more than a large integration marketplace.
The plan structure is straightforward. Wire for Free supports small teams of up to 5 people, includes collaboration essentials, works across all platforms, and allows up to 8 devices. Wire for SMB costs €7.45 per user per month with annual billing and adds support for teams up to 100 people, video conferences with up to 150 participants, SSO, SCIM, administrative controls, and external and guest roles. Wire for Enterprise is intended for organizations with more than 100 people and adds federation, ID-Shield, full deployment support, data sovereignty, and multi-tenancy. Wire for Partners has partner-specific pricing and is designed for resellers, service providers, and integrators.
Wire’s main differentiator is its organizational security and collaboration model. Federation and multi-tenancy are particularly relevant to larger or distributed organizations, while guest links can support external collaboration without requiring an account. The platform also includes searchable conversation history and backups, but its paid plans are the practical starting point for channels and larger teams. The integration list is small, with Poll, Reminder, and GitHub, so organizations that depend on a broad app ecosystem may need another option. Choose Wire for encrypted team communication, federation, and deployment control; look elsewhere if extensive integrations or public channels are central requirements.
