WinTopo is Windows desktop software for converting scanned images and raster files into vector data for CAD, GIS, and CNC workflows. It accepts BMP, TIFF, JPEG, GIF, and PNG inputs, making it suitable for users digitizing existing drawings, maps, and other raster assets. The Freeware edition is aimed at small-volume conversion, while Pro adds broader processing, editing, and export capabilities for more demanding workflows.

Pricing is straightforward but creates a clear divide between the editions. WinTopo Freeware is an unrestricted edition priced at £0 per license with one-time billing. WinTopo Pro costs £200 per license for the first computer, also as a one-time purchase, and additional computer licenses cost £150 each. Pro adds advanced vectorisation algorithms, batch processing, full vector save, print, and export licensing for one computer, plus colour vector extraction and additional image-processing tools. The free edition is a practical starting point for occasional work, while the paid tier is primarily suited to users who need repeated or higher-volume conversion.

Its strongest fit is with Windows-based CAD and GIS digitization workflows that require control over vector output. Centre-line extraction includes Stentiford, Zhang-Suen, and Best Combination methods; edge detection includes simple, advanced, and Canny modes. Users can also apply polyline smoothing and reduction, use digitising and vector editing tools, add georeferencing and control points, and export to formats including DXF, SHP, MIF, ARC, ASC, DI, PDF, WMF, EMF, and WTX. WinTopo is less suitable for teams needing cross-platform access or AI-assisted vectorization. Choose it for focused desktop conversion and CAD/GIS output; consider an alternative if Windows coverage or the £200 Pro license does not fit.

    • CAD, GIS, PDF, and Windows metafile export formats
    • Centre-line extraction, edge detection, and batch processing in Pro
  • Where it doesn't
    • Windows-only desktop coverage
    • WinTopo Pro costs £200 per license
    • Colour vector extraction is limited to the Pro edition
