WebSplatter is an open-source WebGPU rendering framework for viewing 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes in web browsers. It suits developers and small teams that need an interactive viewer they can run on the web or self-host. The project includes a hosted interactive demo, browser-based scene viewing, camera controls, and a PLY-to-GLB conversion script. It is designed as a renderer and viewer rather than a capture or reconstruction service.

Its rendering pipeline is the main technical draw. WebSplatter uses wait-free radix sorting for splat ordering, hardware-accelerated vertex-fragment rasterization, and opacity-aware quad sizing. The published feature set emphasizes cross-device rendering across multiple GPU architectures, including desktop and mobile devices. Scenes can be loaded from PLY or from glTF/GLB files with Gaussian-splatting extensions, while SPZ-compressed GLB files can be decompressed in the browser. Local processing and real-time rendering support a browser-centered workflow without requiring a separate capture pipeline.

The scope is intentionally narrow. WebSplatter does not include AI features, and its documented role stops at rendering, viewing, and format conversion; teams looking for scene capture, cloud reconstruction, or automated generation should consider a different tool. Asset workflows also revolve around PLY and glTF/GLB, with SPZ support through compressed GLB files. Choose WebSplatter when WebGPU-native, open-source browser viewing is the priority; choose an alternative when production needs extend beyond splat display and conversion.

WebSplatter pros and cons

    • Cross-device acceleration with interactive camera controls and PLY-to-GLB conversion
  • Where it doesn't
    • Rendering-focused; it does not provide capture or reconstruction workflows
    • No AI features for automated scene generation or processing
    • Asset support centers on PLY and glTF/GLB formats
