A focused free editor for simple cuts, fades, cleanup and WAV/MP3 exports.

Wave Editor is a free desktop audio editing application for Windows and macOS. It is aimed at beginners and anyone who needs straightforward waveform work, including cutting, copying, pasting, deleting, silence insertion, fades, reversing, normalization and amplification. It supports MP3, WMA and WAV files, exports to WAV and MP3, and handles files up to 2 GB. A multilingual interface and unlimited undo and redo make the core workflow approachable for simple edits.
The Free plan provides a fully functional audio editor, with downloads for Windows and macOS and no spyware or adware. Its feature set covers common corrective and arrangement tasks: non-destructive editing, fade in and fade out, peak-limited normalization and amplification, reverse and invert operations, and silence insertion. For users who only need to trim recordings, adjust levels or prepare a file for export, the plan keeps the product’s scope clear without introducing paid tiers.
Wave Editor’s main trade-off is its narrow focus. The published specifications exclude multitrack editing, MIDI sequencing and cloud collaboration, while the positioning also leaves out plugins, noise reduction and video tools. That makes it a practical choice for individual desktop edits and basic waveform preparation, but a poor fit for users building layered projects, processing noise, scoring to MIDI or collaborating online. Choose it when free, direct editing on Windows or macOS is the priority; choose a broader audio production tool when projects require multiple tracks or an expanded production ecosystem.
