Voltage Modular is Cherry Audio’s virtual modular synthesizer for Windows and macOS. It gives sound designers and synth players a patchable environment built from modules such as oscillators, filters, sequencers, effects, MIDI utilities, and instruments. It can run as a standalone application or as a plug-in in compatible DAWs, making it a fit for people exploring modular signal paths without committing to hardware. Its freemium model offers a way to start with a free Nucleus bundle, while paid collections expand the available modules and presets.

The bundle choices mainly differ in library size. Nucleus includes 20+ modules and 176 presets; Ignite includes 40+ modules and 296 presets. Core + Electro Drums bundles 90+ Voltage Modular Core modules and 15 Electro Drums modules, with 551 Core presets and 94 Electro Drums presets. Those counts make the trade-off clear: Nucleus suits initial exploration, while the larger paid collections provide more building blocks and preset material. A 30-day free trial is offered, and an in-app browser supports module purchases and installation. The published bundle information does not give prices here, so buyers should compare current bundle terms before choosing.

Routing and patch handling are central strengths. Voltage Modular supports MIDI, audio, and CV routing, unlimited cables per jack, busses for organizing patches, and patch variations navigated with trigger and CV. Integrated 32-bit floating-point WAV recording can capture output within the application. AU, VST3, and Pro Tools AAX formats plus standalone operation provide several ways to fit it into a workflow. Choose Voltage Modular if you want to explore modular synthesis in software and value routing flexibility across standalone and plug-in use. It is less suitable if you need a Windows- or macOS-independent platform, or if the free bundle’s smaller module and preset selection does not meet your needs.
