void◆sprite is a free, open-source pixel art editor for pixel artists and game developers working with sprites, tilesets and RPG Maker assets. Written in C++ with SDL3, it supports pixel-perfect scaling, indexed color mode, custom patterns, templates and color palettes. Its broad platform coverage includes the web, Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, making it suitable for creators who want the same general tool across desktop, mobile and browser environments.

Its feature set is wider than a basic sprite editor. Frame-based animation tools include a spritesheet animation preview and timeline, while tileset preview and RPG Maker map preview support game-art workflows beyond individual images. The editor can import and export multiple image and project formats, including PNG, ORA, XYZ, BMP, PBM, C code, Python code, HTML, GIF and AVI. On-canvas comments and real-time collaborative canvases in beta add a shared-workspace angle for teams or critique sessions.

The pricing structure keeps the editor free, with manual updates remaining free. An optional voidsprite autoupdater costs $2 one-time and automatically downloads the latest in-development builds; it is available only for Windows 7 and newer. That distinction makes the free editor the natural choice for most users, while the paid option is specifically for Windows users who want automated access to development builds. Choose void◆sprite for open-source pixel work, animation, tilesets, map previews and broad platform access. Consider another tool if you need collaboration outside a beta feature or prefer a project that is no longer in development.
