VideoAd is an open-source, self-hosted video and audio downloader for Windows and Chrome users who want local processing. It runs on a local Node.js server and works with YouTube, Instagram, Twitter/X, Reddit, Vimeo, TikTok, SoundCloud, Twitch, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Bilibili, and more than 1,000 yt-dlp-supported websites. The Chrome extension detects media on pages and adds a right-click download option. MP4 video downloads, MP3 extraction, selectable resolutions, and Instagram session-cookie connection cover common personal downloading needs.
Its strongest fit is browser-integrated downloading with visible control over each transfer. The extension provides on-page media detection, while the interface shows live download progress, speed, and estimated time remaining. Built-in ad and tracker blocking adds another local browsing feature. VideoAd integrates with yt-dlp, FFmpeg, and Google Chrome, and its local-only processing keeps downloads away from cloud servers. The documented automated installer targets Windows 10 and 11 and requires Node.js and Google Chrome, so setup is oriented toward users comfortable with a local application stack rather than users seeking a web-only service.
VideoAd is free and open source, with no paid tiers described. That keeps the product focused on core downloading rather than account-based features or hosted storage. Its main limitation is depth: playlist support, subtitle downloads, and batch downloads are not available. Choose VideoAd for individual or browser-detected downloads across a wide range of supported sites, especially when local processing matters. Choose an alternative if your workflow depends on queues, playlists, subtitles, or batch automation.
