Verkilo is a desktop novel-writing application for fiction authors developing multi-book series. It combines manuscript editing with a Series Bible for characters, locations, items, and plot threads, plus corkboard and outliner planning views. Projects are stored locally and work offline, making Verkilo a fit for solo and small teams that prefer desktop writing across macOS, Windows, or Linux rather than browser-based collaboration.

Its strongest advantage is the way planning and manuscript work are organized around series development. Multi-book projects, writing streak and word-count history, manuscript analysis reports, offline spelling and grammar checking, and version snapshots with comparison and restore cover the main stages of a long fiction project. The Series Bible gives recurring story elements a dedicated place, while corkboard and outliner views support different planning styles. Authors can export to EPUB, PDF, DOCX, HTML, and Markdown, giving the publishing workflow useful format coverage.

Verkilo has one Standard license at $128 as a one-time purchase, with a perpetual license, no subscription, and access across all personal desktop devices. A 30-day free trial is available. The trade-off is a narrow deployment model: there are no mobile apps, collaboration is not supported, and integrations are not listed. Support is provided through email and documentation. Pick Verkilo if you want a local, offline workspace for building and managing a fiction series on desktop. Choose another writing app if shared editing, mobile access, or a connected software ecosystem matters more than series planning and local storage.
