tribox review
A free offline Markdown notebook with linked notes, tasks and optional paid sync.

tribox is a local-first desktop notes and knowledge-management app for people who want Markdown files on their own devices. Its free tier includes bidirectional WikiLinks, full-text search, inline tasks with due dates and priorities, and a plugin system. Windows, macOS and Linux are the intended desktop platforms. Local features are available offline, and the base app does not require an account. It is aimed at solo users and small setups rather than teams; sync is intended for one person's devices, not collaboration.
The free tribox plan provides the core notebook: local Markdown files, WikiLinks, search, tasks, plugins and community support. tribox Pro is $9 per month, billed monthly, and adds Standard Sync across devices, selective folder sync, settings, theme and plugin sync, version history up to 12 months, and deleted-file recovery. The product is therefore most compelling for users who value file ownership and offline access, and who can stay on one device or accept the free tier's limits. Paid sync may suit those who want continuity across devices plus recovery tools, but it does not turn the app into a shared team workspace.
Availability is the major practical caveat: the public version has not yet been released, and the first release is expected in 2026. Mobile apps are in development. The product description lists email and community support, while the free plan specifically highlights community support. Buyers who need a working desktop notes app today, mobile access, or collaborative editing should wait or choose an alternative. Those comfortable evaluating an unreleased desktop product later may find tribox's local-file model and linked-note workflow worth watching.
