TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 8 is Windows desktop software for converting, compressing, and editing video. It supports Normal and Timeline editing modes, letting solo editors and small teams cut, split, join, and extract ranges while working across video and audio layers. Its format coverage includes AV1, H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, MPEG-1/2, Apple ProRes, VP9, and containers such as MP4, MKV, TS, MOV, MXF, WebM, AVI, FLV, and Ogg.
Pricing is paid-only. The Full Version costs $122 as a one-time purchase and includes a lifetime license. A separate TMPGEnc Mastering Suite Pack Subscription costs $78.30 per year, billed annually, and bundles Video Mastering Works 8 with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 7 and TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Renderer 6. The feature set goes beyond basic conversion: color correction, noise reduction, subtitle and chroma-key filters, automatic subtitle transcription, picture-in-picture layers, and hardware-accelerated encoding for supported Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD hardware are included. Batch queues can process multiple projects sequentially.
High-resolution output is a notable strength. The software supports up to 8K for specified formats and up to 16K for uncompressed, Apple ProRes, and GoPro CineForm formats, giving Windows editors room for demanding mastering workflows. Its desktop-only, Windows-only deployment keeps the target audience narrow, while documented support is provided through docs. Choose it if you need editing, conversion, filters, batching, and advanced output in one Windows application. Editors seeking a free option, non-Windows platform support, or a standalone annual subscription should look elsewhere.
