Thorn is a software synthesizer for electronic music producers who want spectral sound design, harmonic processing and pattern-based sequencing in a plug-in instrument. Its core is a spectral synthesis engine with three harmonic oscillators, harmonic filtering and spectral effects. The instrument also supports FM, ring modulation, PWM and hard sync, giving it a broad set of electronic synthesis techniques while keeping its focus on timbral movement and texture.

Its strongest area is feature depth within that spectral focus. Thorn combines two analog-modeled multimode filters with three ADSR envelopes, three LFOs and two multistage envelopes, providing several routes for shaping evolving sounds. Nine effects extend the sound-design range, while the noise oscillator can play WAV samples. The 16-step arpeggiator adds MIDI output, and the pattern-based glitch sequencer gives the instrument a dedicated rhythm and stutter-oriented workflow rather than treating sequencing as an afterthought.

Thorn fits desktop production setups that support VST2, VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins on Windows or macOS. It is not a standalone app, so it suits producers working inside a compatible host rather than those seeking an independent instrument. The paid product includes a 14-day trial and has no free plan. Choose Thorn if spectral synthesis, modulation variety and glitch sequencing are central to your work. Producers who need standalone operation or support beyond Windows and macOS should choose a different synthesizer.
