TamoStudy review
A free, open-source focus timer for solo desktop study with stats and rewards.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
TamoStudy is a free, open-source desktop timer for solo study and work sessions. It combines Pomodoro focus and break sessions with custom-duration countdowns, selectable five-minute intervals, and a stopwatch that tracks focus time. Completing sessions earns tokens for virtual-pet food and cosmetic items, adding a light progression layer to routine study. The app runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux as a Java application, with local profiles and settings stored on the user's drive.
Its strongest case is the breadth of focus tracking in a compact desktop tool. Daily, monthly, and all-time statistics show accumulated focus, while usage and focus-time achievements provide milestones beyond a simple countdown. Users can switch between structured Pomodoro sessions and a stopwatch when their workflow does not fit fixed intervals. The free plan includes the complete feature set described, so there is no paid tier to compare or upgrade path to budget for.
TamoStudy fits people who want local control and an open-source codebase, plus a small virtual-pet incentive. Discord Rich Presence is available for showing activity, but the listed ecosystem connection is limited to that integration. The repository was archived on February 5, 2024, and the developer says there are no plans for further development; that makes the current feature set the practical endpoint rather than a product under active expansion. Choose it for a focused, cross-platform desktop timer with statistics and collectible rewards. Consider another app if you need mobile or browser access, broader integrations, or ongoing feature development.
