TalkJS is a hosted chat API and SDK platform for developers adding real-time messaging to marketplaces, communities, SaaS products, and other applications. Its prebuilt chatbox, conversation list, inbox, and popup interfaces are designed for teams that want ready-made web chat experiences alongside backend control. The platform supports private one-to-one, group, and public conversations, with presence indicators, typing indicators, message actions, file sharing, location sharing, voice messages, and search. It also supports web, iOS, Android, and API integrations through JavaScript, React, React Native, Flutter, and a REST API.

Pricing separates development access from production usage. The published plans show a forever-free development mode, while Basic starts at $279 per month and includes 10,000 monthly active users, unlimited conversations and messages, unlimited message retention, email, SMS, and push notifications, plus group chats for up to 100 participants and 300 guests. Growth costs $569 per month and raises the allowance to 25,000 monthly active users, supports up to 300 group-chat participants and 1,250 guests, and adds priority chat and email support. Enterprise uses customized pricing and adds a custom monthly active-user allowance, priority phone, chat, and email support, with on-premise or private-cloud options available as add-ons.

TalkJS is strongest when interface delivery matters as much as messaging infrastructure. Notification delivery covers email, SMS, browser, and mobile push, with Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging integrations. Content suppression supports forbidden-word lists and custom patterns, while themes and chat behavior can be customized. The REST API manages users, conversations, and messages, giving backend systems a direct control layer. Choose TalkJS if prebuilt interfaces, broad conversation types, and built-in messaging features are priorities. Consider an alternative if a lower production entry price or broader native platform SDK coverage is more important.
