Summer Camp Portal is an AGPL-licensed Django application for summer camps managing registrations, payments, forms, families, volunteers and arrival-day operations. Its multi-affiliate administration, cabin and housing assignments, camper groups, custom forms and role-based access control make it suited to organizations coordinating more than one camp or affiliate. Parents and families receive dashboards, while staff can manage applications, approvals, records and check-in workflows through the web application. It is a focused fit for summer-camp administration rather than a general-purpose platform for every camp operating model.
The pricing model centers on two deployment paths. Self-Hosted is free and includes the full source code under the AGPL license, Docker Compose or Render deployment, community support through GitHub, and ownership of the camp’s data and infrastructure. Managed Hosting adds setup and onboarding, updates, backups, monitoring and priority email support. Camp Quest directs prospective managed-hosting customers to request a demo, so the main trade-off is between infrastructure control and a supported hosting arrangement. Stripe supports payment processing, and Google SSO supports sign-in, giving the platform a defined connection point for payments and identity.
Its strongest breadth is in the operational workflow around enrollment and camp administration: online session publishing, registration, payment and form collection, volunteer review, family access, cabin assignment, group management, permissions, and medication handover records. Camps that want a free, customizable system and can work with open-source software should consider it, especially when multi-affiliate administration matters. Camps seeking a broader scheduling system or dedicated staff-roster tooling should look for an alternative whose primary scope includes those functions. The managed option is better suited to camps that prefer vendor-supported operations over maintaining deployment and infrastructure themselves.
Summer Camp Portal pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Free AGPL-licensed self-hosted option with full source code
- Registration, payments, forms and family dashboards in one portal
- Cabin assignments, permissions and arrival-day check-in workflows
- Where it doesn't
- Self-hosting requires camps to manage their own infrastructure
- Managed hosting requires a demo request rather than published pricing
- Focuses on summer-camp administration, not activity scheduling or staff rosters
