Strata Design 3D CX 8 is desktop software for building 3D models, textured scenes, rendered images, and animations. It is aimed at illustrators, product and packaging designers, display designers, and other creative professionals who need one application for modeling, animation, rendering, and publishing workflows. Its toolset spans polygonal and spline modeling, Boolean operations, extrusion, lathe, subdivision surfaces, UV mapping, displacement, normal maps, and linked Photoshop or Illustrator textures. Animation support includes keyframes, timelines, inverse and forward kinematics, particles, and scripting.

Pricing supports both recurring access and perpetual licensing. The Mac Subscription and PC Subscription plans each cost $19.95 per seat per month and include continuous upgrades and Strata 3D University; the Mac plan also includes Premium Support. The Dual Platform Subscription costs $29.95 per seat per month and includes Mac and Windows licenses, continuous upgrades, and Strata 3D University. For one-time purchase, the Mac Standard License and PC Standard License each cost $595, while the Dual Platform Standard License costs $849. A 15-day trial is available, giving prospective buyers a defined evaluation period before choosing a subscription or license.

The main tradeoff is breadth within a desktop workflow versus platform and ecosystem reach. Rendering options include raytracing, radiosity, LiveRay, OpenGL, and render-to-layers workflows, while Lua-based scripting and Script FX extend production options. Publishing workflows cover VR, AR, and 3D printing, with exports including Collada, QuickTime, QuickTime VR, AVI, OBJ, VRML, and Flash SWF. Integrations center on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and HDR Light Studio. Choose Strata for affordable general modeling and animation on Mac or Windows; teams needing wider platform coverage or a broader integration ecosystem should consider an alternative.
