StarBurn is Windows desktop software for authoring CD, DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD media. It is aimed at solo users and small organizations that need general optical-disc burning, ISO-image work and virtual-drive capabilities. The feature set covers data, audio and video discs, rewritable-media erasing, audio processing and conversion, and UDF or ISO9660/Joliet file systems. It also provides guided tools for copying optical discs to ISO images and creating virtual DVD devices from those images.
The product uses a freemium model. StarBurn Free includes DVD-ROM emulator functionality. According to the current pricing page, the paid StarBurn edition costs $25 USD as a one-time purchase. That edition includes the same DVD-ROM emulator functionality, recording to remote optical burners over TCP/IP and support. The paid tier therefore matters most for users who need network-connected optical hardware or vendor support, while the free edition suits basic disc and image tasks.
StarBurn’s breadth is its main distinction: alongside audio-disc burning, it combines ISO creation and writing, optical-disc copying, virtual DVD devices and audio conversion in one Windows application. That makes it a practical fit for users managing several optical-media workflows rather than only assembling audio CDs. Its Windows-only, desktop deployment narrows platform choice, and email is the listed support channel. Choose StarBurn if Windows compatibility and a one-time purchase align with your needs; look elsewhere if you require a non-Windows platform or a browser-based workflow.
