Sparx Enterprise Architect is a desktop modeling, design, and management platform for enterprise architects, business analysts, software developers, systems engineers, testers, and project managers. Its scope spans UML 2.5, BPMN, SysML, ArchiMate, requirements, databases, business processes, software systems, and enterprise architecture. Teams can work with shared repositories and multi-user projects, while model exchange supports formats including XMI, XML, CSV, PDF, and common image outputs. The platform is available across web, Windows, macOS, Linux, and API environments, with native Windows support and Wine or CrossOver options for macOS and Linux.

Its licensing structure is designed around organizational modeling needs rather than a simple per-user monthly subscription. The Lite edition provides read-only model viewing. Professional Standard costs $245 per license and adds UML modeling, multi-user projects, and code engineering; the Professional Floating License costs $320 per license and can be transferred within an organization. Corporate Standard costs $320 per license and adds shared DBMS repositories, role-based security, auditing, and baseline merge tools. Unified Standard costs $535 per license with UML, SysML, DDS, DMN, and BPSim capabilities, while Ultimate Standard costs $750 per license for the complete feature set. Floating options are also available for Corporate at $425 and Unified at $699 per license.

The strongest case for Enterprise Architect is a structured engineering environment that connects modeling with requirements traceability, code generation, reverse engineering, database modeling, DDL generation, simulation, scripting, and version control. Integrations include Subversion, CVS, SCC-compliant repositories, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Visual Studio, Eclipse, and Pro Cloud Server. The trade-off is breadth and licensing complexity: smaller teams wanting only lightweight diagram creation may find the platform broader than necessary, while teams needing governed repositories, traceability, and multiple engineering disciplines should consider it. A 30-day trial provides a defined evaluation period before selecting a paid edition.
