SoundBox review
A focused, free tracker for compact synthetic songs and JavaScript projects.

SoundBox is an open-source HTML5 music tracker for composing synthetic music in a web browser. It is aimed at creators making compact music for JavaScript demos and other small software projects, as well as anyone who prefers pattern-based composition without installing a desktop application. Songs are organized into eight channels, patterns, note tracks, and effects tracks, giving the workflow a distinctly tracker-oriented structure.
Its strongest area is focused composition. The four-note polyphonic pattern editor supports pattern-based editing, while a per-pattern FX track adds effects control within the same arrangement model. The synthesized instrument editor is built around oscillators and effects, so SoundBox is suited to creating compact synthetic parts rather than managing a library of recorded samples. Notes can be entered through the on-screen piano, computer keyboard, or MIDI input device, which gives composers several ways to build patterns in the browser.
SoundBox also keeps its output options aligned with small software projects. Songs can be exported as WAV audio or as JavaScript data, and projects can be saved as Data URLs or binary files. That makes the product a practical fit for portable, code-oriented music workflows. Its open-source, free browser model removes a purchase step, but the narrow focus matters: there is no sample import, plugin support, or broader integration layer described here. Choose SoundBox for lightweight synthetic tracker composition and exportable project data; choose a broader production tool if recorded audio, extensible instruments, or a larger ecosystem are central requirements.
