Sound Forge is Windows audio software for recording, sample-level editing, restoration, sound design, and mastering. It suits editors and mastering users who need detailed waveform control, repair tools, metering, batch conversion, and effects without requiring a full digital audio workstation. The application supports multichannel recording and editing for up to 32 channels, automatic recording triggers, local text-to-speech, and work with individual audio files. It can also be used alongside Vegas Pro or another DAW.

Its strongest area is focused audio repair and finishing. Noise reduction includes hiss and hum reduction, while dedicated tools address clicks, crackle, and clipping. Peak and loudness metering support mastering workflows, and the software includes mastering tools and effects. VST2, VST3, and ARA support broaden plug-in compatibility, while batch processing and conversion help with repeated file-based tasks. These capabilities make Sound Forge more targeted than a general multitrack production environment.

Boris FX offers Sound Forge 2026 through monthly and annual subscriptions, upgrade and support plans, and perpetual licenses. Sound Forge Plus versions add pitch correction, amp emulation, and reverberation plug-ins. A 15-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan. Choose Sound Forge if you work on Windows and prioritize sample-level editing, restoration, mastering, and batch workflows. Choose another tool if you need a complete multitrack DAW or a non-Windows application.
