SKM Power*Tools review
Deep electrical studies for industrial projects, with Windows-only desktop deployment.

SKM Power*Tools is Windows-based electrical engineering software for modeling and analyzing power distribution systems. It is designed for electrical power engineers working across commercial, industrial, institutional, utility and petrochemical facilities. One-line electrical system modeling forms the base for studies covering load flow, demand loads, feeder and transformer sizing, short circuits, protective-device coordination, arc flash, cable ampacity, motor starting, harmonics, transient stability, reliability and grounding.
The published plans are organized around different study requirements. PTW-LT provides demand-load and fault-analysis software with a 50-bus configuration. Power*Pack combines DAPPER, CAPTOR and Arc Flash Evaluation, while the IEC Industrial Pack focuses on arc-flash evaluation and IEC-oriented work. Combo-Pack I adds equipment evaluation, A_FAULT and IEC_909; Combo-Pack II adds unbalanced single-phase analysis and TMS. Automation*Pack includes cable ampacity, auto coordination and auto design, and DC Systems Pack adds DC Systems Analysis. IEC Maritime Pack includes HI_WAVE, TMS and IEC_363. The product is paid, with one-time package pricing and separate annual maintenance and support renewal pricing.
Its strongest fit is for teams that need a broad study environment rather than a narrow schematic or panel-design tool. Standards-based analysis, automatic equipment sizing and coordination evaluation, and libraries for electrical equipment and protective devices support detailed engineering workflows. Autodesk Revit, XML and SPEL exchange extend its fit within established design and analysis processes. The trade-off is a Windows-only desktop deployment, with no cloud or mobile Power*Tools offering described here, and the range of specialized packages may be more than a smaller project requires. Choose SKM Power*Tools for industrial power studies, arc-flash work and multi-study analysis; consider a narrower alternative when platform flexibility or a limited feature scope matters more.
SKM Power*Tools pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Covers load flow, faults, coordination, arc flash and feeder sizing
- Supports ANSI and IEC studies with equipment and protective-device libraries
- Exchanges data with Autodesk Revit, XML and SPEL
- Where it doesn't
- Windows-only desktop deployment limits platform flexibility
- The broad module range may exceed the needs of narrow projects
- No free plan is available
