sipgate.io is sipgate’s developer platform for adding telephony to applications. It is aimed at teams that want APIs for call handling and related communications, rather than a standalone calling interface. The REST API covers telephony resources and sessions, outbound call initiation, SMS, fax, and account and telephony management. For incoming calls, developers can use XML actions; the Push API sends incoming and outgoing call events to a customer-controlled URL. The service is cloud-based and is offered as an add-on to a sipgate account, so that account requirement is central to whether it fits a project.

Call control is the most distinctive part of the offering. The API supports real-time hold, mute, transfer, DTMF, announcements and recording controls, with recording retrieval also available. That gives developers a way to build workflows around both call events and actions during a call. The published materials also include a Node.js library and developer examples. Teams planning around another language should check the available integration path against their requirements: the listed SDK languages are JavaScript, Java and Python, while the specifically named library is for Node.js.

Pricing is freemium, with free REST API usage on plans S, M and L, each including 100 webhook calls. Additional calls are priced at 4.9 euro cents on S, 2.9 euro cents on M and 1.9 euro cents on L. XL is priced on request, includes 10,000 webhook calls and offers a reduced cost per additional webhook. Support channels are email and documentation. sipgate.io makes the most sense for a small team already using sipgate that wants programmable calling and can estimate webhook volume; a team seeking telephony APIs without a sipgate account, or one that needs published XL pricing, should consider alternatives.
