simhook review
A low-cost SMS gateway for Android/SIM sending, inbound webhooks, and developer APIs.

simhook converts an Android phone with a SIM card into an SMS gateway for sending and receiving texts through the phone's number. It is aimed at developers, individuals, shops, clinics, and small teams that already have a phone number and carrier plan. Access is available through a REST API, signed inbound webhooks, a dashboard, a TypeScript SDK, or an MCP server. The platform supports web, Android, API, and self-hosted deployments, with message routing, delivery reporting, scheduling, and phone management included in the product scope.
The pricing structure starts with a Free plan that allows 30 messages per day, 500 messages per month, one phone, and 25 recipients per send. It includes the full API, webhooks, delivery receipts, scheduling, dashboard, SDK, MCP server, and app updates. The published paid plans show Pro at $12 per month or $120 per year, with 10,000 messages per month, three phones, and 500 recipients per send. Scale is listed at $39 per month or $390 per year, increasing capacity to 50,000 messages per month, 10 phones, and 2,500 recipients per send. Paid plans are not yet open, so accounts remain on Free until they become available. Carrier SMS charges are separate.
Its strongest fit is for buyers who want to automate texting through an Android device and retain control of the number and deployment. Signed webhooks, scoped API keys, delivery receipts, scheduling, and Docker Compose self-hosting give developers several integration and operating options. The Android-and-SIM requirement is also the main constraint: teams seeking a carrier-independent gateway or a ready-to-use cloud-only service should look elsewhere. Choose simhook when a phone-based SMS workflow, open-source access, and a free starting tier matter more than immediate access to higher-volume plans.
