Silhouette is a GPU-accelerated desktop application and plugin for professional visual-effects artists and studios. Its main strengths are advanced rotoscoping, matte creation, keying, tracking, paint, warping, morphing, and node-based compositing. Machine-learning features support object detection, face segmentation, matte creation, tracking, and image processing. That makes it a fit for teams handling difficult foreground extraction, cleanup, and compositing work rather than consumers seeking a simple one-click video background remover.

Pricing is subscription-based. The annual subscription costs $545 per year and includes the standalone application and/or plugin. The monthly subscription costs $103 per month with the same stated application and/or plugin access. A 14-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan. The published plan structure is straightforward, while the annual option is more economical than paying the monthly rate across a full year. The cost is easier to justify when rotoscoping, paint, tracking, and compositing are regular production requirements.

Silhouette also fits established VFX pipelines. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, supports API access, and integrates with Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Foundry Nuke, Blackmagic Resolve, Blackmagic Fusion, Autodesk Flame, Mocha Pro, Sapphire, and Particle Illusion. Its feature set extends well beyond background removal, including more than 400 compositing nodes, Mocha Pro tracking, JSON-RPC and MCP automation servers, and integrated Boris FX nodes. Choose Silhouette when precise, layered VFX work and host-application compatibility matter. Choose a narrower tool instead when the requirement is only routine background removal without the broader compositing workflow.
