Shopify review
A broad commerce platform, but a limited fit for dedicated website translation.

Shopify is a hosted commerce platform for entrepreneurs, retailers, small teams, and larger brands. It combines storefront creation, themes and templates, checkout, payment processing, product and inventory management, fulfillment, shipping, marketing, analytics, and point-of-sale selling. Merchants can sell through online stores, physical locations, social networks, marketplaces, AI chats, and other channels. For businesses that need an ecommerce foundation before addressing website translation, Shopify offers a broad starting point; teams seeking translation as their primary workflow should look elsewhere.
Pricing is paid rather than free, with a current 3-day trial. The published plans include Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. Grow is listed at $79 USD per month with annual billing, while Advanced is $399 USD per month with monthly billing or $299 USD per month with annual billing. Advanced adds up to 15 additional staff accounts and enhanced live chat support; Grow includes up to 5 additional staff accounts. Plus costs $2,300 USD per month and includes unlimited staff accounts, 200 inventory locations, priority support, and unlimited B2B catalogs. Pricing and transaction-fee treatment can vary by country, payment provider, and plan.
Shopify’s strongest fit is a business that needs commerce breadth: unlimited products, inventory across 10 locations on the standard plans, abandoned checkout recovery, digital product sales, order tools, marketing automation, analytics, and multiple sales channels. Its Shopify App Store apps, social commerce channels, online marketplaces, and APIs extend the platform beyond the core store. That breadth comes with a clear tradeoff for this category: website translation is not among the stated core features. Choose Shopify when selling infrastructure is the priority and translation is a secondary requirement; choose a dedicated website translation product when multilingual site management is the central need.
Shopify pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Full-featured online store with checkout, payments, and inventory tools
- Omnichannel selling across web, social, marketplaces, and physical locations
- App ecosystem, APIs, analytics, marketing, and B2B commerce support
- Where it doesn't
- Website translation is not a stated core capability
- Pricing varies by plan, billing term, country, and payment provider
- Advanced commerce features may exceed the needs of translation-focused teams
