Serposcope review
A free, open-source rank tracker for technical users who can accept legacy software.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Serposcope is a self-hosted SEO application for monitoring website rankings in search engines. It runs locally as a web service and is available for Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu/Linux. Its fit is strongest for SEO practitioners who want free, open-source rank tracking and are comfortable managing a locally hosted tool rather than choosing an actively maintained commercial platform.
Its main strength is the range of control around SERP collection. Serposcope can scrape through proxies or the user's IP, connect with third-party SERP-scraping services, and integrate with captcha-solving APIs. Supported integrations include Scraping Ant, Space Serp, capmonster.cloud, anticaptcha, 2captcha, and imagetyperz. Configurable authentication, raw SERP storage, and an undocumented API for accessing data add flexibility for users who need local access to ranking data or want to connect the tool to other workflows.
The central trade-off is maintenance and scope. The official website says Serposcope is no longer supported and may not work, while its source repository was archived on December 23, 2024. That makes it a legacy option rather than a current SEO suite. Its published capabilities focus on rank tracking and related data access; it does not cover verified research, auditing, backlink, or competitor capabilities. Choose Serposcope if free, open-source, self-hosted rank tracking is the priority and the maintenance status is acceptable. Choose an alternative if ongoing support or broader SEO analysis is required.
