Sailfish OS is a Linux-based operating system for smartphones and tablets, with options to adapt it for embedded devices and corporate or government deployments. It suits organizations that want control over mobile-device configuration and management, as well as users who value native Qt applications. Android AppSupport is optional and licensed, so compatibility with Android apps depends on the chosen licence and device.

Its management capabilities are a distinguishing fit for organizations overseeing fleets: APIs support policies, provisioning, software management, device locking and remote wipe. The OS also includes device data encryption, application sandboxing, VPN and firewall support, over-the-air updates and security hotfixes. Automatic backups can go to a chosen cloud service or a self-managed server. These controls make it more relevant to managed deployments than to buyers seeking a general-purpose desktop OS.

According to Jolla's published licence details, the commercial Full licence for legacy Sony Xperia devices is listed at €24.90, while the Free licence is a trial for supported Xperia devices and excludes Android AppSupport and other commercial components. Jolla C2 includes a licence. Sailfish OS works with native applications and offers app sources including Jolla Store, Aurora Store and F-Droid; Microsoft Exchange is also listed among its integrations. Organizations should weigh device support and licence scope before choosing it. It is a better fit for teams that need mobile management controls than for buyers expecting a perpetual free licence or broad compatibility across arbitrary phones.
