Sable Paint is a digital painting application for Windows and macOS, aimed at artists who want to explore custom brush behavior, simulated paint, layered artwork, and stylized rendering. Its GPU-based engine models paint that carries, mixes, drags, and builds height on the canvas. The free edition provides the core painting engine, while Studio is intended for users who need the complete feature set through a perpetual license.

The published plans make the entry point straightforward. Free Edition costs $0 as a one-time option and includes the full painting engine, canvases up to 1024 × 1024 px, 2 layers, 2 saved brush presets, and no account or watermark. Studio costs $49 as a one-time perpetual license and unlocks everything. The paid tier is therefore most relevant when canvas limits, layer limits, or preset limits would interfere with a larger or more involved painting workflow.

Sable Paint’s strongest distinction is the depth of its brush and paint systems. The brush editor exposes shape, scatter, jitter, smoothing, blend, color, height, curves, filaments, texture, and masking controls, with pressure curves for size, flow, opacity, color, hardness, and height. Artists can also use the Procedural Stamp Forge, glaze and Spectral Glaze layers, nine stylization modes, reference images, masks, blend modes, clipping, groups, and non-destructive adjustments. Choose it for experimental desktop painting and custom brush design; choose another tool if you need a broader platform range or a less specialized workflow.
