Rustortion is a free, open-source guitar and bass amplifier simulator built in Rust. It is aimed at musicians and producers who want low-latency amp processing either as a standalone Linux application or inside a digital audio workstation through VST3 or CLAP. Its signal path covers preamp, compressor, tone stack, power amp, noise gate, and level stages, with per-stage bypass and reordering for flexible routing.

The main strength is depth within the amp-processing workflow. Configurable 1x–16x oversampling supports adjustable processing, while delay, reverb, tremolo, multiband saturation, and a 16-band graphic EQ extend the rig beyond basic amplification. Impulse-response cabinet simulation supports guitar and bass, and Neural Amp Modeler loading handles WaveNet and LSTM .nam files. Preset saving, loading, and keyboard switching make repeatable setups practical, while real-time recording, a built-in tuner, FFT-based pitch shifting, and MIDI controller support add useful performance and production controls.

Rustortion’s platform fit is clear but narrow: Linux supports the standalone application using JACK, while prebuilt releases are available for Linux and Windows plugin use. That makes it a focused option for users working in those operating systems and plugin environments, rather than a cross-platform amp solution. Choose Rustortion if free, open-source software and detailed stage control matter more than a broader platform footprint. Consider another product if you need support beyond Windows and Linux, or if you want a standalone Windows workflow rather than plugin-based use.
