ReoLapse is an open-source, self-hosted application for turning Reolink camera or NVR snapshots into daily, yearly and weather-event timelapse videos. It is designed for solo users and small teams monitoring outdoor scenes, weather patterns or astronomical activity. The project runs on Linux and includes a browser interface for browsing, playback and downloads, keeping capture and review in one locally managed system.

Its strongest distinction is event-aware capture rather than simple interval recording. ReoLapse can detect storms and snow bursts, create event clips, identify lunar events and astronomical seasons, and tag related frames and videos. A ten-day weather and moon event forecast dashboard adds planning context. Daily videos use ffmpeg deflickering, while yearly seasons are assembled from archived frames. PTZ home-position checking can quarantine frames taken when a camera is off position, helping maintain cleaner sequences.

ReoLapse fits users who want control over storage and retention, with configurable policies and storage monitoring dashboards alongside direct camera or NVR connections. The open-source, free-plan model avoids a recurring software tier, but self-hosting places installation and upkeep with the operator. Its platform scope is Linux and web, and its camera workflow centers on Reolink hardware. Choose it for Reolink-based weather or astronomy monitoring with event detection and local control; choose another tool if you need broad camera-brand compatibility, raw-photo input or a hosted deployment.

ReoLapse pros and cons

  • Where it doesn't
    • Works with Reolink cameras or NVRs rather than broad camera brands
