RAPID review
A deep layered synthesizer for producers who want wavetable and multisample flexibility.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
RAPID is a desktop software synthesizer for music production, performance and sound design. Its eight independently controllable synthesis layers support morphable wavetable and multisample oscillators, granular synthesis and resynthesis import. The instrument is aimed at producers and sound designers who want layered patches, detailed modulation and multiple synthesis approaches inside a host environment. It runs as VST 2, VST 3 and Audio Unit plug-ins on Windows and macOS.
Its main strength is the breadth within each sound-design layer. Granular synthesis supports up to 100 stereo grains, while four ADSR envelopes, four LFOs and four step sequencers provide modulation options. A 32-step arpeggiator supports MIDI import and export. Multi-mode filters, oscillator insert effects, built-in reverb, delays, modulation effects, distortion and dynamics extend the production toolkit. The included RAPID FX plug-in adds a separate effect-focused component, and the full edition includes factory sound content, user-library tools and 660+ presets.
RAPID is a paid product with the RAPID Synthesizer plan, which includes the synthesizer plug-in, RAPID FX plug-in, factory sound content and future updates. It does not provide a standalone application, so it fits workflows centered on Windows or macOS hosts that support its plug-in formats. Producers seeking layered wavetable, multisample and granular production should find its feature set well aligned with that focus. Those who need a standalone instrument or a free plan should consider a different type of synthesizer.
