Rakuten Music is a Japan-focused music streaming service from Rakuten Group, Inc. It supports on-demand playback, playlists, favorites, podcasts, charts, synchronized lyrics, downloads, and offline listening. The service is available on iOS and Android, with full playback in desktop web browsers for subscribers. It is a strong fit for mobile listeners who already use Rakuten services or value Rakuten Point rewards, while its plan limits make it less suitable for listeners seeking unrestricted access without a paid tier.
The freemium structure offers several ways to access the service. The Bundle plan is free for eligible Rakuten Mobile, Rakuten membership-tier, or qualifying Rakuten Card users, with up to 10 hours of playback and some playback and download restrictions. Lite plans provide up to 20 hours of listening per month or 30 days, with some songs limited to 30-second previews and offline playback included. Standard plans add unlimited listening and full functionality without song restrictions. Eligible Rakuten Card or Rakuten Mobile customers can also choose an unlimited member plan, while eligible students aged 15–25 can use the Student plan, which shows an initial 90-day free period. The general free trial is 30 days, and the starting price shown is ¥480.
Rakuten Music stands out through its combination of offline playback, synchronized lyrics, podcasts, selectable streaming quality up to 320 kbps, and Rakuten AI for conversational music search. Its rewards feature gives Rakuten customers an additional reason to keep listening. However, the service remains a focused choice: the listed platforms are web, iOS, and Android, audio is standard quality rather than lossless, and lower-cost access includes listening or playback restrictions. Choose it for mobile listening within the Rakuten ecosystem; choose an alternative if broader platform coverage, lossless audio, or unrestricted lower-cost access matters most.
