Qualisys Track Manager (QTM) review
A mature Windows-based QTM suite for research-grade tracking, biomechanics, and device integration.

Qualisys Track Manager (QTM) is motion-capture software for researchers, engineers, sports-science professionals, and entertainment teams. It collects and processes 2D, 3D, and 6DOF movement data from Qualisys cameras, then supports skeleton solving for one or more actors, marker identification, trajectory editing, and real-time or post-processing workflows. Research labs combining mocap with biomechanics are the clearest fit, particularly when camera data needs to work alongside laboratory devices.
QTM’s strongest advantage is its breadth across capture, cleanup, streaming, and analysis handoff. Automatic Identification of Markers, gap filling, and artifact smoothing address common trajectory-editing needs, while real-time streaming over TCP/IP and UDP/IP supports connected workflows. The scripting interface and RESTful HTTP API add programmatic control. Integration options include Unity, Unreal Engine, Maya, MotionBuilder, MATLAB, LabVIEW, force plates, EMG systems, and eye trackers. Exports include C3D, TSV, AVI, FBX, MATLAB, TRC, STO, and JSON, giving teams several paths into downstream analysis and production tools.
Pricing is handled through Qualisys or its distributors rather than a published plan structure, so buyers should expect a sales-led evaluation. QTM runs under Windows, which narrows platform fit for teams standardizing on other desktop operating systems. Its documented scope centers on movement capture, marker and skeleton processing, device integration, and data exchange; teams specifically seeking clearly stated face tracking, hand tracking, or character-retargeting capabilities should compare alternatives before choosing. QTM is a strong candidate for research environments that value configurable pipelines and broad export support, but less suitable for buyers who need transparent self-serve pricing or a broader cross-platform package.
Qualisys Track Manager (QTM) pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Supports 2D, 3D, and 6DOF tracking with skeleton solving
- Combines trajectory cleanup, marker identification, and post-processing
- Streams data and connects with force plates, EMG, and eye trackers
- Where it doesn't
- Runs on Windows rather than across multiple desktop platforms
- Pricing requires contact with Qualisys or its distributors
- Face, hand, and character-retargeting tools are not clearly established
