PostGate is a WordPress paywall and content monetization plugin for creators, bloggers, educators, consultants, publishers, and membership-style websites. It supports site-wide, post-type, category, taxonomy, post, page, custom post type, and block-level restrictions. Access can require payment, registration, or login, while paragraph- or word-based previews keep part of restricted content public. The free PostGate Free plan includes core monetization features, one-time payments, subscriptions, and Stripe-powered checkout without a recurring PostGate license fee.

Its strongest fit is WordPress sites that need detailed access rules inside the editor. Gutenberg Lock Block and native Block Editor controls support block-level gating, while role-based bypasses and granular overrides provide more control over who can view restricted content. PostGate also integrates with Elementor, Divi, and Beaver Builder. WordPress administrators can manage orders, subscriptions, revenue, and access inside WordPress, and Stripe Billing Portal gives subscribers a place for self-service account management.

Payment functionality is focused on Stripe. Stripe-hosted Checkout, webhooks, sandbox mode, product synchronization, subscription management, and automatic access revocation after cancellation cover the main purchase and entitlement workflows. PostGate is free to install, but successful transactions incur a 5% platform fee in addition to Stripe processing fees. It suits WordPress publishers selling individual premium articles or recurring access, especially when granular gating matters more than audience metering. Sites that require a metered paywall or a payment processor beyond Stripe should choose another option.
