Posta review
A broad open-source email platform with inbound webhooks, not a parsing-first tool.

Posta is an open-source, self-hosted email delivery platform for developers and teams that need control over transactional email infrastructure. It supports transactional, batch, and templated email through a REST API, as well as SMTP delivery and relay traffic. For inbound workflows, Posta receives email and forwards events through webhooks, making it suitable for teams that want to connect incoming messages to their own services while also managing outbound email in the same platform.
Its scope extends well beyond inbound handling. Versioned and localized templates support variable substitution, while campaign scheduling, subscriber targeting, and A/B testing cover broader email operations. Bounce, complaint, and suppression handling support delivery administration, and open and click tracking provide delivery analytics. Event webhooks include HMAC signatures and retries. A web dashboard covers templates, domains, contacts, campaigns, and logs, while workspaces, role-based access control, API keys, and two-factor authentication provide administrative controls.
Posta fits teams comfortable running infrastructure with PostgreSQL, Redis, and optional S3-compatible object storage for application state and attachments. Integrations and implementation options include Go, PHP, Java, and .NET, alongside web, API, and self-hosted access. The main trade-off is focus: inbound receiving is present, but the product is positioned as a complete email delivery and campaign platform rather than a dedicated parser for extracting structured content from messages. Choose Posta when self-hosted outbound and inbound email operations belong together; choose a more narrowly focused alternative when email parsing is the central requirement.
Posta pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Inbound email receiving with webhook forwarding
- REST API, SMTP relay, templates, campaigns, and analytics
- Self-hosted control with RBAC, API keys, and two-factor authentication
- Where it doesn't
- Email parsing is not the platform’s primary focus
- Self-hosted deployment puts infrastructure management on the user
- Broad campaign and administration features may exceed a parsing-only need
