PiSlider review
A free, self-hosted controller for motion-rich Raspberry Pi time-lapse rigs.

PiSlider is a Raspberry Pi 5 application for operating a motorized camera rig through a browser. It is aimed at solo creators and small teams building time-lapse, cinematic-motion, macro-scanning or stereo-capture systems. The software coordinates interval capture with slide, pan and tilt axes, while supporting Raspberry Pi, Sony Wi‑Fi and USB-tethered cameras. Control runs through the rig’s own Wi‑Fi hotspot, so the workflow does not require an internet connection or a separate app installation.
The published pricing model is free, making PiSlider a practical software option for experiments and custom rigs. Its feature depth is concentrated in synchronized camera movement and exposure control: users can configure frame interval and count, trigger cameras, ramp exposure with Holy Grail automation, create macro focus stacks, sequence 3D scans and set stereo-pair angular offsets. Gamepad control and replayable cinematic motion scripts extend it beyond a basic interval timer. For post-production, the DaVinci Resolve retime plugin uses motion metadata to help align edits with recorded movement.
PiSlider is self-hosted on Linux hardware and depends on a Raspberry Pi, motors and camera, so setup is tied to the physical rig rather than a standalone desktop workflow. Browser control over the local hotspot can simplify operation once the system is assembled, while documentation is the listed support channel. The software suits makers who want coordinated motion, camera triggering and specialized capture modes in one local controller. Choose another tool if you need built-in deflicker, a cloud-managed service, broader platform deployment or a workflow that does not require assembling compatible hardware.

- Supports Holy Grail exposure, focus stacking, stereo capture and 3D scans
- Adds gamepad scripts and DaVinci Resolve motion-metadata retiming
- Where it doesn't
- Requires Raspberry Pi, motors and a compatible camera
- Self-hosted Linux deployment may demand hardware and rig setup
- No deflicker feature and support is limited to documentation
