Pannellum is a lightweight, free, open-source panorama viewer for websites and applications. Built with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and WebGL, it runs in modern browsers and can be self-hosted as static content. Its audience is web developers who need to embed interactive 360-degree imagery, virtual tours or panorama video rather than produce camera footage or edit finished media.

The viewer covers a broad set of panorama formats and deployment needs. It supports equirectangular, partial, cubic and multiresolution panoramas, plus WebGL and CSS 3D renderers. Hotspots, virtual tours, compass headings and video support add interaction, while the multiresolution tile-pyramid format is designed for large images. Developers can integrate through a JavaScript API or iframe, and plug-in-free, framework-free operation keeps the library adaptable to existing web stacks.

Pannellum’s focus is display and playback, not media production. Its published documentation describes panorama viewing and video playback, while the product notes do not document stitching, stabilization, camera ingestion, headset VR preview or video export. Teams that need those creation and post-production workflows should choose a dedicated 360-video editor instead. The open-source model provides a free plan, with self-hosted deployment and documentation as the support path. Pick Pannellum when you want direct control over an embedded web viewer; look elsewhere when you need an end-to-end capture, editing or export workflow.
