Origa review
A free, offline-capable study app with JLPT content, writing practice and Anki imports.

Origa combines Japanese vocabulary, kanji, grammar and listening study in an app aimed at independent learners. Its content is organized from JLPT N5 through N1, and lessons use several card types, including recognition, recall, listening, writing, kanji reading and grammar. Built-in bilingual dictionaries and automatic furigana support reading, while guided stroke-order practice adds a writing component. The result is a broad study tool for learners who want structured review rather than a dedicated speaking-practice app.
Review is built around spaced repetition with FSRS scheduling. Native Japanese phrase audio and listening cards support listening study; OCR can extract Japanese text from images, and on-device speech recognition can capture audio vocabulary. Learners can also create cards from text, images or audio, import Anki decks and textbook vocabulary, and continue lessons, reviews and card creation offline after initial setup. That combination suits learners who want to build and revisit their own study material, with Anki as the listed integration. Origa is available on web, Windows, Linux and Android.
Origa is free, with a free plan, so its JLPT content and study features are not divided across paid tiers. It fits solo learners and small-scale study particularly well when offline access, writing practice and vocabulary review matter. The trade-off is that speaking practice is not included, so learners who want a dedicated way to practice spoken output should consider another app alongside it or instead. Support is through documentation, which may suit self-directed learners better than people seeking a broader support channel. Choose Origa for structured, multi-format Japanese study; look elsewhere if spoken practice is central.
