OptiTrack Motive review
A feature-rich Windows tool for optical tracking, post-processing, and real-time pipelines.

OptiTrack Motive is desktop optical motion-capture software for tracking markers attached to people and objects with OptiTrack cameras. It is aimed at movement science, robotics, video-game animation, cinematic virtual production, and location-based virtual reality. The software combines human skeleton and rigid-body tracking with calibration, recording, post-capture editing, export, and real-time streaming. It is a strong fit for teams that need a complete Windows-based capture workflow rather than a narrowly focused tracking utility.
Pricing is license-based, with paid options for different workflows. Motive:Tracker costs $999 one-time and includes rigid-body tracking, unlimited live rigid bodies, unlimited non-trained markersets, and one year of updates. Motive:Body costs $4,999 one-time and adds human tracking, character animation support, live capture, post-processing, and up to three live skeletons. Motive:Body Unlimited costs $9,999 one-time and supports unlimited live and edit skeletons. Motive:Edit costs $2,499 one-time for post-capture editing, trained markersets, and skeletons. One-year maintenance is available for each license, priced from $499 to $4,999 per year depending on the package.
Its main advantage is breadth across capture and downstream production. Motive offers one-click and continuous calibration, trimming, gap filling, smoothing, batch scripting with Python and C#, and exports to CSV, C3D, FBX, BVH, TRC, and USD. Real-time output is available through NatNet and VRPN, while plugins and integrations connect it with Unreal Engine, Unity, MotionBuilder, OpenVR, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Visual3D, STT InSight, and TheMotionMonitor. Choose Motive when optical tracking, editing depth, and pipeline connectivity matter. A different option may suit buyers who need macOS support, a free entry tier, or a lower-cost body-tracking package.
